they look quite nice, but if I may make a suggestion, don't base you vehicles on the 28mm round bases, they just look like they are stuck since they overlap the base so much and it detracts from an otherwise excellent piece.

The flak guns come from the SG Flakwagonz, and the one on the bottom left of the screen if from a Forgeworld Flakwagon.

Do you think that basing the vehicles on 40mm round bases would look better?

i base most of my stuff on 30mm bases these days (instead of the 25mm that gw et al use) gives more space for vehicle placement and whatnot (also fits much better with 40k orks too)
you can get them at Impact Miniatures

This army is a beautiful find! I would also echo the sentiments about the overlapping vehicles on 25mm bases looking a bit off; perhaps 40mm's would look a little less like boats run aground ;D

Not too fond of the base height. Looks more like playing pieces ( which they are I suppose) than minis. Since you already started on 28mm bases, I suppose you might want to continue. There are loads of options I you decide to try flatter bases. Fenris games is one I usually recommend because of the massive assortment. Plus, he's a nice chap too.

So, it's been an absolute age since I did any 6mm work, but I'm getting back into. I have 100-odd bases of ork infantry primed and ready to paint, but more interestingly, I have been doing some conversions. I want some truks for my speedfreaks, and some killa kans for my stompa mob, but don't have the proper models. What I do have are a load of Space Marine era battlewagonz and plastic dreadnoughts. After some cutting, re-gluing and sculpting work I have come up with the following from one battlewagon and one dreadnought. Any good?

These are fun.

But to save time and model use have you seen Troublemaker games last funder, both trukks and kans proxies can be found in that campaign.

I think they are great, I may have to do an ork army one day, lots of scratch building, everything you have done so far works.

Looking forward to seeing more.

I really like these Orks. Are you going to make it into separate armies, or the same army with different factions within it?

Purified charm, those conversions. Fits nicely with the old skool theme.

Time for an update here, though if you've been browsing the EpiComp categories you'll have seen this stuff before. I used the comp as motivation for getting things painted. I found having a deadline useful, and when it moved, it allowed me to add a couple more units to my Feral Orks. This is only a good thing, as there is going to be so many infantry units in that list! I also took the opportunity to buy some models from alternative manufacturers to see how they stand up against the Epic stuff. I was very pleased with the quality of the units I bought. Once I get through the sea of Orks I need to finish I'll be moving on to Imperial Guard and Tau. This may be a few years hence!

First up, a Goff Ork Warband. My converted Killa Kans turned out pretty well once painted I thought.

The aforementioned Feral Orks:

Yomi Grav Tanks from Onslaught Miniatures. Went for a bright and shiny anime-inspired look:

Cyclops Heavy Mortars from Exodus Wars. Could be Bombards, Medusae or Griffons in an Imperial Guard list:

Lastly, Dark Realm Piranha Gunships. Vultures for an Imperial Guard list:

I'll be getting back to the Orks shortly. Got a few Speed Freak warbands underway.

Cheers
