While the Blood Angels were not known for static defense, their use of Thunderfire Cannon arrays to guard vulnerable flanks and strategic transportation lanes was well known during the height of fighting on the 3rd Moon of Palavin. Pict-captured here were members of the 7th Technical Brotherhood as they performed a rear guard action in the Battle of Kastorvah pass. While the Imperial Guard was withdrawing to secondary defense lines, the 4 tech marines, their servitors automatons, and substantial supplies of ammunition were air landed by Blood Angel Storm Eagle transporters, each stripped of weapons to increase carrying capacity. Alone without support, they fought a pitched 7 hour battle against the arch enemy before their positions being overrun.

Painters notes:
This summer I came across some very old Evilware forumware sitting in a forgotten package. While these are not the greatest designs in the modern era, they certainly were great for their time and place. I took them out and dusted them off and gave them some attention, even if they're somewhat lacking in details, still a fun little model.

The Xiphon interceptor was the preeminent high-performance aircraft of the Adeptus Astartes. Far too powerful and performant for normal humans, it required constant micro-management by its Astartes pilot to maintain equilibrium in the aircraft due to an engine system that was designed to operate both in the void and a wide variety of atmospheres. While their brothers, the Iron Hands persecuted the ground campaign, the Blood Angels took to the skies for air dominance.

Painters notes:
What can I say? More Blood Angles I guess! Airbrushed VGA Gory Red over black primer. Then a filter of VMA Red and then a pass of AP Pure Red. Lots of black panels (VGC Charcoal and then edges picked out with VGA Cold grey and then VMC Pale Gray on the extreme edges. Brass details because BA mean baroque and then treatments with GW nihilakh oxide for weathering.

The Vindicator is typically employed as short ranged siege tank used by Astartes in siege scenarios. However the Blood Angels battle doctrine leverages the Vindicator tank as an heavy support assault gun with their air mobile forces, as befitting the chapter's predilections for high intensity assault forces. Stripped down and coupled with the more powerful Lucifer pattern engines allows the Blood Angels to leverage Vindicators in a more aggressive role than typically seen. Often being dropped from orbit in dropships to punch holes through prepared enemy positions.

Second verse, same as the first! Great to finally kill off these awesome otterware tanks from yester-year..

My Lord, after scouring the available data-archives available to Crusade Command, this is the total known information regarding the 4th contingent Chapter, Rainbow Warriors, that presented themselves as suddenly to command. All requests to Terra requesting additional data-archive access have so far been rebuffed.

Painter's Notes:
Now here's some really old models. Legit GW EA land speeders in the blister still any everything! Rainbow Warriors are a hard one as anything blue tends to read as Ultras and [insert We Don't Do That Here meme]. Therefore I based using VMA French Blue and then did zenithal passes of VMA Electric blue to lock it in. Transistion of progressively greater amounts of VMA Greyish Blue performed as spot highlights. Finally edge highlights picked out in VMA pale blue to bring up the lightness to a very not Ultras look. I think proceeded to go slowly insane painting in rainbow stripes all over on panels, ailerons, and F-me, even their blasted helmets! :nooo Oil washes from Mr Hobby (space magic still) to give them the usual treatment. As my existing speeders had a basing theme of some type of mudflats, I went with something similar to tie them together, envisioning them as flying along a tidal flat.

The Cyclops Demolition Vehicles are commonly used to remove enemy strong points and bunkers but have found other uses on the battlefield, among these clearing obstacles such as minefields and tank traps or to destroy buildings during street-fighting, while the explosive charge is large enough to damage enemy vehicles. The Cadian 4th Army used them in vast numbers, estimated in the thousands, to clear the initial defensive lines of rebel forces to great effect.

painter's notes:
Never actually expected to do any of these up. Wolfkeeper ran test prints of my STL before I put them up for sale as a sanity check but then sent them my way so why they hell not then? [shrugs] Quick and dirty based with VMC Cayman Green and a little splash of black wash for definition. Nothing special but they're expendable units anyway. Uses my standard urban desert motif extensively covered previously.

Painter's notes:
Heavens do I hate this model. Assembly is like a course in masochism. I want to find who designed this FW model and hurt them ... a lot. To add to the frustration of assembly I needed to stop the project, model a new AI19 styled base but Chaosy, print her, fix the design and reprint, then finally paint her, all just so I could make a model I would never use in a game :spin

Key to the crusade was to capture and secure the extensive munition stores on Palavin. The munitorium had for millennia stock piled weapons, shells, vehicles, and equipment in extensive underground bunkers, each with self sustaining statis generators. The extensive loading and supply docks were amazingly found to be intact and fully functional, if neglected by the arch enemy. As the situation with the orbital campaign continued to deteriorate, preventing the needed supplies to enter the sub-sector at the required levels, the high command increasingly relied on these stores to prosecute the local war.

painter's notes:
Some of Bishok's wonderful Cendre terrain. Honestly they're so flavorful and fun to paint. They provide great low level urban terrain (counts-as hills) as well as doubling as great risers for other buildings to be placed on to provide excellent area terrain for infantry. The upper version (without bunker) even uses my customized Cendre wall parts (posted with permission free on the Bishok discord for everyone's use if you're interested)

As the conflict threatened to spiral out of control, the Astartes were quick to dispatch significant reinforcements to battlezone Paravin. The Venerable Battlebarge, Heart Blood, with it's escorts was tasked with restoring orbital supremacy and providing devastating orbital strikes on traitor positions. The layers upon layers of adamantium armour and nested void shields was protection from all but the most concentrated attacks; A predator amongst the stars.

Attachment:
Heart Blood 2.jpg

While the term /Battle Barge/ doesn't denote a singular class but instead a role within the Astartes fleet being a battleship displacement vessel geared towards planetary assault and suppression, they have many commonalities in design. This leaves the Heart Blood a curiosity containing large structural components apparently in common with the Retribution class battleship and several features resembling the Dark Angels flagship, The Invincible Reason, as well as an oversized drive section of unknown design. Records are incomplete as to where the great vessel was laid down but fragmentary sources indicate it was involved in multiples battles dating back to at least M36 in the Age of Apostasy.

Painter's Notes
So I ended up being gifted this 100% unique mashup of 5 different ships to create this battlebarge. Mannschaft is a complete mad lad but we love him for it.

While the Astartes are known for rapid strikes and response force, they are fully capable of performing longer campaigns and actions. When deployed in force planetside, the marine drop stronghold is not uncommon as part of the wargear employed. Able to be quickly deployed from orbit by marine landing craft as well as interpedently via drop cradles clad in ablative armor, the remnants of which are jettisoned at the moment the sections landed. The base is quickly self assembling, even under enemy fire, and is highly automated with the finest battlefield cogitators available to the imperium. The Rainbow Warriors were found to extensively leverage these command and control nodes to assist the tank lords of Prism as they waged mechanized war.

Painter's Notes: Still working on locking this down 100% but I based using VMA French Blue then did zenithal passes of VMA Electric blue again. Transitions of progressively greater amounts of VMA Greyish Blue performed as spot highlights and a final pass of VMA Pale Blue to give it that light blue that's become known in fandom for Rainbow Warriors.
