Well, I took a while off from Epic, especially painting. I got a batch of 6mm Napoleonics and have been grinding away on them. I needed a break from French and British Line battalions, so here they are: the Warp Spiders of Saim-Hann. ![]() Here are the close-ups of the Wave Serpents dedicated to the Warp Spider Temple. ![]() ![]() My intent was to evoke the image of fangs and venom, hence the jagged appearance of the Wave Serpent shield and the green highlighting. (Well, that and I wanted to use all of my old plastic Falcons!) Here is a close-up of the Aspect Warriors: ![]() Finally, I used some Guardians and painted them in the Warp Spider colors. They are considered Initiates (warriors who have not yet attained Aspect status). Basically I play them exactly as Warp Spiders. ![]() Why use them? Well, you only get 10 Spiders per Epic box and I want to paint all of the box before buying another. So I decided to use Guardians as proxies, then when I get enough Warp Spiders, the Guardians will actually be Guardian-quality troops assigned to the Warp Spiders' temple. No new rules here. I really like the effect of of the bright green. They evoke images of spider's eyes and venom for some reason. Well, back to painting the Napoleonics! |

Excellent CR! You've made some improvements to the shield from your first versions. I like the color scheme as well and yes, it does look venomous. ![]() |

I'm still photographing the little buggers. It's hard to find the right zoom that shows enough detail, but not so much that the "mistakes" are magnified to where the human eye can't even see it. Here is a stand of British Lifeguards by Baccus. |

Here is a British Guards stand. Yes, I am the kind of nut who tries to paint the piping and lace on the cuffs and collar of a 6mm figure. Well, at least for the Guards... |

One last shot from the top of the Warp Spider Troupe, which shows the Falcon "circuitry" better. ![]() |

I like the Wave serpent. The "donuts" do look a bit odd but the coloring is superb. Somehow it manages to be exactly right. ![]() |

Any idea on how to fix the "donuts"? I was thinking of plugging one end as a start. Then either: * Paint little silver lines (curves?) to simulate turbines. In this case I would plug the back end. * Paint the inside the bright green. In this case I probably would plug the front end. * Attach wires and run them down the shield back to the hull. In this case I would probably plug both ends and paint the wired the circuitry red color. Any one else have any other ideas? Or is this too fiddly, as no one will see this level of detail without magnification (the holes are barely discernable unless looking at it straight on from 1'). |
