I've decided that my next big painting project will be to paint (repaint) my Squats. Like most of us here, my painting skills have improved over time and I'm not satisfied with a lot of minis I painted in the past. Anything I'm not happy with, I'm going to strip and start from scratch.

I'm also trying to decide on a new painting scheme for them. I'm not crazy about painting things in camo (sorry L4   :p ). So, I'm looking for some input on what might look cool. I would like to avoid the same colors I used for my IG and Titan Legion, but it's not mandatory. My Titan legion is dark blue and green, while my IG are dark blue (the same dark as my Titans) and olive drab. Also, I'm tentatively planning on painting my knights medium blue and red.

Right now I'm thinking about using orange and brown for my squats, but I also like a couple of the schemes used in the Ork And Squat Warlords rulebook from SM2. Anyone have any thoughts on this scheme or maybe some other combination that might look cool?

That seems decent. What color did you paint the vehicles?

I didn't have any! i think i only bought one boxed set (along with one of each for every race) and just painted them for fun / as allies! I seem to recall darker blue for the bikes - but same uniform colour for the bikers as the infantry - bar exo armoured bikers of course.

I think they had rhinos though - they were light blue with white doors.

That might look fine on Rhinos, but I'm not quite sure how good that would look on the super heavies.

Back in the day I saw a Squat army painted in black, white and gold.  Even with a mediocre paintjob the relatively stark contrasts really looked great on the table.

1st world war french (blue jackets, red trousers I believe) or traditional British redcoats.

Hi!

I used the pain schemes right out of the warlords book. They seem to work well.

I'm going for a mix of schemes for differing clans with in the army.

So far I've got -

Mottled blue with dark silver for my gyro's, airships, a leviathan and a colossus.

Lich purple with gold and silver for my goliaths, cyclops and the start of a brotherhood.  Plus any support or light artillery company's I need.

I'll do the last segment with the standard 2nd edition colour scheme from ork and squat warlords book.

Squat clans I feel were always a little bit more independent than IG or marines so had a more unique feel to their colour scheme.

Each of the segements will be a designated role such as fast attack, air attack or heavy support.

Sounds like some good colour schemes there Enderel. It might be worth trying to use one colour that will tie them all together as an army; keep the seperate clan colours but maybe use another colour as an 'army' colour?

When I started to paint my Squats I wanted to avoid the boredom of painting the same colors over and over again. So my army is L4's nightmare.

The idea is to emphasize the clan aspect of the squat society by giving each brotherhood it's own name and uniform. So far I've painted:
-Brotherhood of Forest (green)
-Brotherhood of Ice (ice blue)
-Brotherhood of Fire (blood red)
-Brotherhood of Night (black)

Yet to be painted are Brotherhood of Snow (white), Brotherhood of Mountain (grey) and five as of yet unnamed brotherhoods.

Yet to be painted are Brotherhood of Snow (white).....

There were only seven of these - Grumpy, Sneezy, Sleepy...
