Iain was kind enough to comment on my post earlier and inquired whether I was planning on cross-posting here as well. As I have had so much pleasure and inspiration over they years seeing Epic continue to grow and flourish on TacCmd, I thought I should do so for the 'Ultramarine Winter Challenge'. A rather grandiose title for what is essentially just me trying to kick my arse in gear to paint some Epic again as it has been more years than I care to remember. So, I set myself a goal of painting some Epic throughout the winter months in a not disimilar approach to your famous ToEG blogs. Why didn't I just post it there then? I hear you ask. Mostly because the updates in the main will be on my Dropship Blog under the tag '2nd Company' and it is a bit late in the year to be starting a 2012 entry. Instead I will endeavour to at the very least cross-post here when there is an update and, where possible add a bit more information should I forget to include it in the blog. There is no fixed end goal, or plan to this and I have set myself some loose objectives to hopefully keep the motivation going and at the very least aim for getting 3000 - 4000 points wrapped up. I don't have unlimited numbers of miniatures kicking around waiting to be painted blue, but I do certainly have a selection that spans all era's of Epic, so expect a few 'heritage' models to get a mashup with recent editions. In fact, if there was any rule to this army I have set out with it is "mix it up" I have no idea where this will end up and prefer to just see where the mood and paintbrush take me. Oh yes, if you are familiar with Kickstarter and the stretch goal targets, you may recognise a 'tongue in cheek' nod towards that as one of my cheap motivational gimmicks. As all projects have to have a beginning, the target for November is 700 points and it shouldn't come as too much of a surprise that I am well on the way to completing that as it only adds up to a Land Raider and Tactical Detachment. In fact, there they are to date 90% done: ![]() Now, back to finishing the Tactical Squads to hit the target and set the next goal. Regards Carl Dropship Blog |

You won't recognise me by my username here, but I follow you on twitter and I've definitely drooled over your 40k UMs before now. Lovely looking landraiders, I'm really looking forward to seeing where you take these! and don't forget, there's a cracking friendly tournament scene here in the UK ![]() edit: consider this thread well and truly subscribed to! ![]() |

Fantastic painting, the unit looks uniform yet every tank is clearly individual. Welcome aboard. /Fredmans |

Thanks guys, really appreciated. Quote: Really looking forward to seeing how this turns out. Loved the mk1b Warlord you did a few years ago. Cheers! Hopefully you may like some of the Legio Ignatum War Engine support I have in plan for the this army as well then as they are in a similar multi-era style. Quote: OMG! 2nd company as well!!! Now I'll have to change mine to another chapter altogether No way! Love your Ultramarines; the highlights in particular really pop and they look great. I'd cite your 2nd Company ToEG as one of the motivations for me starting this in the first place. Don't change a thing. Just wrapping up the edging on the Tactical Detachment, so hopefully should have an update tomorrow evening. The next two formations are already assembled and primed. Thanks again for the comments. Much to my surprise, I am actually a little ahead of schedule. So here is the first 700 points secured. Tactical Detachment No 1 ![]() And just to keep with the theme, another shot of the Land Raider detachment to match. ![]() There are more details on the Blog, but I did promise I would keep cross-posting here with the updates as well. I have set the next target at 1000 points. Yes I know I am setting rather easy goals thus far, but I did want to start easy and work up to the bigger stuff (and believe me there is definitely some 'BIG' stuff in plan at least size wise, speculate away) ![]() I did however say that as each target was passed I would throw in a bonus extra unit or two to keep me motivated. These are what I like to call my 'reward targets'. It is a cheap and somewhat cheesy gimmick I know, but it helps keep me motivated to paint the basics. As this was such an easy starting target the bonus reward isn't too exciting (I'm saving those for later). ![]() Five 'Heresy Era' Drop Pods. That's all for now. Need sleep then to push on to the 1K mark. Regards Carl Dropship Blog |
