just wondering if I can get some opinions....

I'm starting work on my Iyanden army at the moment and I've hit the first stumbling block..... basing stuff.....

My guard are based on strip bases for infantry, and warmaster bases for vehicles and cavalry, I like the look, but it's not really fitting for eldar (plus warmaster bases are expensive, and I don't think they look the part with eldar tanks)

I've decided I really like FoW bases for eldar vehicles, small are a perfect fit for falcons, medium great for EoV

My issue comes mainly from infantry, I'm planning four distinct eldar armies (one for each of the 4 EUK craftworld lists) over the next few years. To save my sanity (and wallet) all aspect warriors and rangers will be shared between the armies, so it's important to me that basing is consistent....

I went with round bases for my guard, but decided I didn't like the look, however seeing some of the beautiful eldar armies out there at the moment (RichardL, Rob Hutson (when they're finished) and PitFiend) has made me consider whether I want to try round bases out again...... I'll probably go for round bases for my jetbikes anyway as it just looks right, but all other infantry needs to be consistent (maybe) I'm also going for a black, ashen base scheme as it will highlight the bright eldar colours and make them stand out (if any of that matters)

So what to do? strip bases or round bases? I'd potentially consider FoW bases too.....

Having said all this, should I just mix it all up and do whatever I have available?

I use different shaped bases for different troop types on my newer armies. Strip type or rectangular bases for normal troops and bikes, round bases for assault troops and dreads. And square bases for most command units. Vehicles go on whatever looks best, usually rectangular.

Nice work!! I'm off to check your whole thread now, I can't believe I missed it!

I do plan on round bases for single models (my sentinels are based that way, I plan on doing dreads, war walkers, vypers, rapiers etc that way) not sold on different bases for different types of infantry though...... Yours look great, just not for me....

I thought I posted a longish comment with some suggestions last night, but it seems to have vanished and I'm to lazy to write it all out again (sorry).

I use / would recommend 1.5mm high laser cut ply bases from Fenris Games, they're cheap and have a very large selection of shapes and sizes (and will do custom made ones too) - http://www.fenrisgames.com/shop.html

Also, circles, ovals or pill shaped bases are most appropriate for Eldar IMO. I use different basing for each army, mainly based on what I think looks best e.g. I like to base scouts on bigger bases, to give them that spread out feel.

I had some custom made for my SM by Fenris. They are available now: http://www.fenrisgames.com/shop.html#ec ... t=14952053 . Don't know how they will look finished, since I have not had time yet, but they fit snugly.
