I ordered a load of the forgeworld resin epic Tau the other day, such as Skyrays, Manta and Orcas. To me they seem a bit to neat and perfect to have been hand sculpted. Does anyone know if these minis were matter printed back in 2005 when they came out? Was that technology even availble to the masses back then? Just wondering... |

I would be surprised if they were matter printed. In fact, I seem to recall that FW still insists on doing it the old fashioned way. Also, and I'm not certain on this one, the type of resolution required probably wasn't widely accessable in 2005. |

Also, I'm pretty sure they came out before 2005, because they had rules published for epic: 40,000 before epic: Armageddon was released. I suspect that they came out it 2002, based on the release date of the release date of the issue of epic 40,000 magazine that had those rules. |

Thought that would have been the case with regards to the matter printing. They just seem a bit too perfect, especially on certain features like grills etc. Anyway, thanks for helping clear that up, guys. |

I recall them saying at some point that they were sculpted traditionally, mostly out of plasticard. The models are impressively done, but not quite as perfect as printed CAD. |

The I was looking at the photos on the FW site last night of the Recon Squad, and I think the grilles are plasticard, as Glyn says. Check the spacing of the grooves - Evergreen sells a clapboard siding sheet with .75mm spacing, and I'm guessing that's what was used. |

FW Epic are mainly plasticard and hand sculpt. The tank treads are supposedly electrical ties. Another technique used for small scale is brass photo etch. I believe this is what GHQ has been doing all these years. And I suspect that is where any icongraphy and some of the small detail present on the FW Epic stems from. |

Well, for for plastic card and green stuff they look very symetrical and neat, even over the curved sections. Very nice models indeed! Cheers guys |
