Some time ago I had the idea of a variant army list for Epic Armageddon, an Ork Airfield Defence Force (yes I know it needs a name change to something more Orky...)

The main thrust of the forces will be:

Flyboyz
Flak Gunz
Fighter Bommers
Bommers
Wartrakks
Trukks
Flakwagons

and other ideas I am working on.

The first unit I am intending to paint are some Ork Bommers, using the Forgeworld models.

For those that are interested, here are the bitz you get.

A close up of the detail.

And here is a comparative shot (as promised in another thread) of the FW model with the original Epic40K Fighter.

Thanks for the pics Jimbo,

I army idea sounds great.

Would a ork landa or two full of orks consitute a ork airfield defense force.  Something like a local fast reserve.

Landas! Huzzah!

How about 'Fly Minderz', Jimbo?

Great idea, by the way. Esp. in a scenario with IG Stormtroopers or an Eldar light attack force attacking.:)

Great idea! I now have visions of some of the old Madboyz, with ping-pong bats, all guiding the aircraft in different directions.  :D

CS I see we are on the same wavelength.

Inspiration for the army has come from far and near.

Some people may remember a battle report in an old WD where Space Marines (Black Templars IIRC) landed using drop pods on an Ork airfield and the Flyboyz had to run to their aircraft which then gave the Ork players a strafing attack run.

bah, nashun 're only good for da zoggin' pink skin.
Da real boyz 've told about dat frigin' booma camp, they called it "da frigin' booma camp" and dats all i no.
Word is dat dey dey like callin' demselves da Fly Minderz', tho.
But you no da flyboyz, always like to call dem funny names and all dat, when it's all so simple. 'ts cos one of da flyboyz painted dat "Nashunal Flyin Space Adminstrashun" thingy on dat board dats their name. must 've been one of dose zoggin bloodaxe ! didn't thought dey climb on da booma. dat's no proper orkish name.

A bit more seriously (not much), i don't think the orks would really agree on a name. I would paint various names, appelation on boards and planes indicating as much as possible the variety of the orkish thought on the subject.

I'm sorry i keep mentioning board, but i can't stop picturing myself the ork airbase, something like a camp with planes, crazed mekaniaks and flyboyz, and rawtag barricades and clotures arround it. It would have quite some character.

Athmos

More of a drunken ww1 air drome, with lots of personalities and only the basic idea of formality in combat. ???  :p
Cheers

The first unit of the Ork Airfield Defence Force

I have also been digging out some old Ork miniatures for the Airfield vehicles.

More thoughts and pictures here.
