i have seen two of these multi part marines on eBay - and fancy getting one. However, what i want to know is - can you actually put them together to make a marine that looks good? (obviously dependant on ones skill)

Tuffskull has some pics on his site. Look for the converted Inquisitor stand he entered in the 2003 EpiComp painting competition (and won of course  )

The short answer is yes, you can make them look good.
Check Tuffskull's website - The Mercenary Brush - for some examples.

Yes, I have five of these as well (although Tuffskull has loads). You can put them together, although the variations are limited. Also, dont sneeze when you file them down - they dissappear quickly!

well - i didn't win the first so it hardly matters, though i couldn't find tuffskulls painted one?!

Thanks for the votes of confidence guys.
I dont have any which I've just "put together", although you certainly can make a nice looking marine from them. The real beauty of them is to use them for converting.
I used them for the basis of my converted grey knights which can be seen here:
Epic Misc & Display Gallery
And eventually they will make up the basis for all my marines in my Space wolf army.....
Which it appears I've not included in my new site! Never noticed that before!
Here's a pic - it shows one of the first tactical stands. The guy in the center has a wolf pelt added & has had minor alterations made, but is pretty close to what you get on the sprue.

I dont know if these guys are actually still available. You may want to call Forge World and ask. Last I heard (although this was a year or so ago) they were still available at shows with FW attending.
