Post subject:  how to paint marble?

Hello all!

below you can see the cover of the Black Library book "Galaxy in Flames"

I'd like to paint my marines in the colour depicted, but I struggle at painting the white-ish armour. I don't really think it's pure white, also in the book itself it is referenced as marble like colour.

I need some serious help with this, and I was looking for the talented people here to help me out with advice on how to paint this! :)

cheers,
M

EDIT: 6mm of course, Epic FTW :) I don't need the "lines" in the marble, I just want to get the colour right, so my marines don't look like Space Wolves or White Scars..

Please tell me that this is at least 28mm, and you are not trying to paint marble on 6mm Marines!

I think working on a basis of light neutral grey will work. use pure white only sparingly.

I would probably go codex grey, then cover most of it with fortress grey, leaving the darker one show only in the deepest recesses, then a mix of fortress grey and white, and only very final highlights in pure white.

I would be tempted to experiment with a glazing of satin varnish if trying to achieve a marble like effect on armour.

Here are some more Luna Wolves illustration :

I really don't think those are marbled. I believe they look differently because of an artists rendition, as well as the battle damage they have.

Here's an example of some deathguard chaos space marines that i did. I primed white then washed in devlan mud, then dry brushed white on. You could easly get the same effect with badab black. I'll post an example. These are my pre-heresy World Eaters.

I had orks that had a mix of devlan mud and badab black washed together, I can't find it but it looked really good as well. Especially for dirty greasy orks.

Black Wash
Then do several layers of the colour wash you want for the marble colour

Should work. I was thinking of doing this technique for Tomb Kings one day
