You probably have a lot of those old plastic Falcons lying around, but have more than enough Falcon Troupes, right? And with GW selling Wave Serpents at $13.00 for 2 (and you usually need 3), you were probably wondering how to make Wave Serpents out of those classic Falcons. (Well, I was!)
So, I started with this prototype. I made a simple skirting out of heavy-duty paper (110 lb.) using a template I drew in Visio. I glued it, attaching it under the lip of the Falcon. Then, I rolled the edges upwards. By smearing it with white glue and letting it soak in, the paper becomes workable, so you can get a nice, well, wave.

I then created a second skirting, which attaches to my paper skirt. This adds the shield deflectors and power cables and gives it some depth (but not much - it is only 110 lb. paper).
I have painted the skirting Boltgun Metal, so it is easier to view against the red. Plenty of details to add. I will probably do most with a Micron pen, but I can always paint on crystals and LED and such.
Here is the top view.

Now all I need are some ideas on how to paint it. Still not inspired by anything yet.
If only it weren't this darned red, which is so hard to use to cover other colors.
