Hi Guys

Stil brainstorming a bit on my Catachan army. I wanted to give it a Vietnam or special forces feel so I was thinking of adding a number of proxy units to the army.

- Obviously the infantry will be Catachan troops form the E40k spure. I've got 30 stands of those if I stretch the troops slightly and add some mortars to 10 of the stands. Also there might be suitable proxies from other companies than GW...

- The old Egs on Legs will be converted to look a bit like the Elysian drop sentinel form Forge World ie. a lighter version of the regular Guard sentinel.

- Ogryn Auxilliaries. - Well that's pretty straight forward.

- Vulture support - with shark mouths painted on of course... (maybe add a few home made surf boards as well?)

- Valkyries - I'm not sure if I want to add a Storm Trooper formation in Valkyries as well... maybe...

- Hellhounds

- Griffons

- A few artillery batteries and tank squadrons but these should be relatively few.

- LCAC support - I was thinking of adding an amphibious support squadron to the army as well. I think it would look  cool and GHQ does a really nice LCAC model.

- Rubber raft Commando teams. Does anybody know of a manufacturer who makes rubber rafts in 1:285/1:300 scale. I suppose slightly bigger like 1:200ish scale would also be alright? They shouldn't be too difficult to scratch build but buying finished ones would definitely be easier.

- Patrol boats - Well these are just a rough idea. I think it would be fun to have one or two of these but...

Hey Warmaster, I like where this is going - I use my good old Squatachans for this role - withtheir beards and beer-bellies, they look more like semi-decrepit hells angels (wait til I get to the bikers!), but they fit, anyway. I personally wouldn't include any heavy arty or tanks (much as I love them). How about hover vehicles and jetbikes and landspeeder-type vehicles?
Oh, and one company I know of might have a good proxy for troops too...  :alien:

Paint up your Tbolts and Marauders in USN colours for the Carrier Strike Support Aircraft - someone has to brign the Napalm to the table!

The LCACs are nice, but I prefer the Old Crow resin stuff actually.

I second Tas, the old crow stuff looks good!  Like that GHQ gun boat, though, very Apocalypse Now!

Would it be churlish, not to mention out of character for what you're doing, to mention that the Chimera is supposed to be amphibious?  I guess they're not in keeping with the theme of what you're after though.

Indeed they do... :alien:

I like them but they're a bit plain for my taste. Perhaps  adding a bit extra detail would be a good idea.

Erh.. good point! :D  Well maybe... But then againg the mechanized forces really ought to be airborne instead I think...

Cheers! :)

Then again M113s in 'Nam were amphibious too.

Amphibious means able to swim accross water obstancels after a short preparatoin.  Not used for routine water transport

Then again we're talking Sci Fi here so we're allowed to stretch the boundraries of realism a bit so I suppose ultimately it is a matter of picking what looks interesting.

Another thing I want to include in this army is some of the Darkrealm buggies I think it would add a nice Delta Force touch as well.

Cheers! :)

BMPs are amphibious, too. I'm not sure if you want to use Russky equipment, but they might work.

Yes, the GHQ and Old Crow line have some great stuff that would work good for a 'Nam-type Force ! Including Armored GEVs/ACVs !  I think GZG has some nice Riverine Craft too ! And yes, our M113s were/are amphibious ... I've seen them swim the Imjin River in the ROK.  Some sunk too !  And I've cruiser up Central American Rivers in USN PCFs and USA armored LCMs !  There is a lot of neat 6mm models out there ... I've been tempted to buy'm and make my G/W Cats a Riverine Force like the US 9th Inf. Div. in the Mekong Delta, IIRC.  "Charlie Don't Surf !" ... But the Eldar, Chaos & Tau do !      Yep, GHQ, OLD CROW & GZG would be good places to check out ! :;):

Hey warmaster,

I think this would be a really cool army. ?What came to mind when I read your post was two things. ?A campaign in an Amazon type setting. ? Were control of a river would be vitally important. ?Or maybe the river was the best passage through the dense jungle. ?

The campaign would be a joint river/jungle effort. ?What comes to mind is the campiagn during the US Civil War to take control of the Missisippi River. ?There you an a Union army and a river fleet working togethor to move down the river.

That may inspire some ideas for the army.

Also if you looking for additional Vtol support try these

Hey Warmaster I just though Of a really cool idea.  At least I think so.

Based on this river campaign you can make a river fleet and fight river battles using the battle fleet gothic rules.

IMNSHO if your going to go for an amphibious type force... try these WMN:

They're a bit bigger than your regular amphibious stuff from GHQ so they'll fit in a bit better with the GW stuff scale wise and if you slap a turret on it from a Chimera... Voila! Amphibious Chimera proxies.

You also get 4 per pack which is nice as well.

"1st of the 9th - Air Cav - Air Mobile!
They traded in their horses for choppers and went tear-assing 'round the Nam looking for the Sh#@"

I love the Smell...
