Great stuff all round, but have to say those Krieg troopers have blown me away - especially the bases. Really evokes the WW1 no-mans-land look. Could you let us know how you did it ?

Also, can i ask, do they talk with a slight french accent...? ;-)

Wow! I always thought the IG infantry got the short end of the stick sculpting wise, but you really made them look good (for all three of the lists).

You've inspired me to go back and pick out a few more details on the ones I'm working on.

Hi. It was mostly the technique for "mud" i was interested in (tho the paint job is great too.) Wow this is a geeky question ! Though doing infantry bases drives me nuts, espcialy when it takes loads of time and still looks crap.)

I've tried the flock approach = too uniform, fighting on a golf course.

Tried the pollyfiller with sand in it = too lumpy. Army standing on mole hills.

Now using the new GW "texture paint" with a few extra lumps which i find works pretty well and is quick, but only if the mini's bases are almost perfectly recessed. Can't see it working on bikes etc...

Looking at your's again - are they on Flames of War "lipped" bases ? What type of filler/sculpting tool do you use? (and do you just have more patience than me ? :-D )

Blip the bases are laser cut ply from Fenris Games, custom sizes.

The base is covered with a ready mixed household filler applied with a small knife this stage can get messy, i put various thicknesses on with high and low areas to acheive a natural look. I then make holes in the filler for the troops to fit in, or you can just press the figures in at this time and they will usually stick to the wet filler, saves glue.

When the filler dries i will add small areas of sand and maybe a few rocks with PVA, and then use textured paint to blend the various areas together and add additional texture to the filler.

The rest is just the usual drybrushing routine with your chosen colours.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the tutorial. Think the secret might be putting the filler on before the mini and sand... that and extra patience :-) I'll try it next time.

Scorpions look great !

Mate,

Love the Red Scorpions, excellent work, particularly on the helmets. What colours did you use on them?

Cheers
Aaron
