Noticed there's plenty of FoW base love in the epic community but no good pics / threads specific to showing how that sizes up for current EA figures. Someone over at Specialist Games asked for pics so I figure I'd double post them here for community benefit and perhaps someone teetering on the edge of purchasing them might be persuaded ![]() Attachment: The left is current grandma wendy rhino on FoW small base and the right is current Land Raider (with guns behind the doors stupidity and all ![]() |

I keep debating if I should base my tanks a or not. I keep all my (or plan to) troops on magnets and in metal boxes. Some say I should just put a magnet on to the tank other say base them and magnetize the base. The latter sounds the best but I'm held back that tanks shouldn't be based. Ugh! |

I use small FOW bases for my infantry. I don't really like bases on vehicles. Bases on vehicles look great in a display cabinet but a little strange on a gameboard. |

I'll be the first to admit that my epic collecting has been just that: collecting. My epic days were back in 1st/2nd edition days (some of which still exists here). My primary gaming outlet is BFG where model size and shape and whatnot has NO bearing on the game. It is 100% base to base measurements. Recently (like 2012) we've started to play E:A and the standardized rule of Base 2 Base on all measurements has removed some worry about model size depending on what edition or proxy we were using. If it fit on the FoW base it worked for our group. |

Main reason I went for basing my vehicles is that I wanted to tie in the 3 rulebook armies I was painting, both to each other and also to terrain. It started with my desert based IG- I had a couple of painted figures in different but similar paint schemes. I figured that having consistent basing would make them look as if they belonged together. Also similar with my Orks because I wanted both Evil Sunz and Goffs warbands. For my IG and Ork I used Warmaster bases for tanks, and round bases between 30mm and 50mm for my War Machines. For my SM I have decided to use FoW bases as the Rhinos in particular looked too short on the Warmaster bases, and the Land Raiders would be too wide for Warmaster bases. So have picked up the small FoW bases for rhinos etc and I plan on getting some of the medium FoW bases for Land Raiders (as Jimmy has done). Cheers James |

I'd love to get the FoW bases howver i do have a couple questions: 1 - do the small bases fit a Chimera chassis (all Mk's) comfortably? They are bigger than than Rhino in the pic. 2 - i take it the larger FoH base shown doesnt fit the Epic 40k and SM SHT chassis well - the problem i'd then have is to find a base that looks close to the FoW bases on your standard vehicles yet fits the larger tanks? AS you can see from Luca's posted pic, the small bases work awesome for anything APC / MBT sized. I've got chimeras from FW, Otterware, and 3rd edition all sitting fine on them as well as even bigger items like basilisks too. admiral_tee wrote: i take it the larger FoH base shown doesnt fit the Epic 40k and SM SHT chassis well I base all my SHTs on the meduim sized bases. This includes FW stormswords which are larger than the GW items (something like 1/300 vs 1/500 IIRC). admiral_tee wrote: the problem i'd then have is to find a base that looks close to the FoW bases on your standard vehicles yet fits the larger tanks? Really BIG stuff fits great on the large bases (I mounted a thunderhawk just fine yesterday, if you want me to post it I can) The only thing I've run into trouble with has been my ancient 1st edition Captial Imperialis which is just MASSIVE. For that I plan on using the large Dystopian Wars base. |

I used to base my tanks on Warmaster bases but I've moved to Kallistra bases because they're cheaper and come in a variety of sizes. Years ago I never used to base my vehicles but since stripping and repainting my old IG models I decided to base them because I like the look of my entire army being based and it reduces the amount of handling the actual models get when moving them around. Admiral tee- I just did search on ebay for FoW bases. You can get either small, medium or large FoW bases or mixture. To start with I went for a big pack of 50 small FoW bases- will sort out all my Rhinos/Predators/Whirlwinds/Hunters. And as bug16 said above, having vehicles based helps with picking up and moving on tabletop, and makes army looks consistent. Cheers James |
