Hi guys
I was looking at getting some exodus wars harpies to count as both thunderbolts and lightnings in my vanaheim list. However I am almost at a loss as to tell them appart.
I was going to remove the outer cannons on the lightnings and add an extra set of missiles under the wings, but I'm not sure that they will fit. Does anyone know if there is space to put some drop tanks onto the harpies for thunderbolts to symbolize their greater distance.
Another change could be to use just one stabilization fin again on the thunderbolt to reflect the standard model.
I do plan to have a slightly different paint job to each fighter to help tell them apart and my bombers will be Rocs so I'm hoping to have a fully matching air force. Would the above things be enough or will I need to get separate models entirely. If its of any relevance I would like take part in epic UK tournaments so would this be acceptable.
Any advice/ help would greatly be appreciated. If anyone has any ideas on how to make this work, if at all possible then you have my thanks in advance
Chris

You’re better off painting them very differently than doing conversions on tiny little figures that your opponent will be seeing from a few feet away. Use dark colors in spots to make their shape look different.
But really, using the same model to represent two different units is asking for trouble.

Between EW and DRM there are enough choice of flyers to have 2 different models for Thunderbolts and Lightnings. I agree that Harpies do look cool though.

Why not have one with no fins and but keep the nose, and the other with fins but the nose intact? They'll look like completely different fighters then.
