Small question to you guys.

Having laid out my entire ork army, i noticed an allarming lack of flak wagons.

My question is, how do FW flakwagons measure up against SG? as they are a lot cheeper.

Thanks in advance!!!

In terms of size they are very similar, the FW model perhaps looking a bit flatter and wider, but probably not more than a milimeter or so. The details on the FW gunner is better, but personally I prefer the looks of the SG wagon chassis. But that is essentially a matter of taste.

Looking at what you got i believe i see about 3 wagons. From what i've asked recently about orks and creating a 3k point army i feel you have what you need. Because! you have a huge ammount of air support for intercepts and the combination of the two should provide you with enough air cover.

Anyone elses thoughts on this?

I am going by the epic 40k rules, not EA. Don't know if that will make a difference.

And it's actually more a fluff problem. I would like to have some for a deathskulls warband and some for my battlewagon s^peedfreaks. They are big mobs and easily targettable at the moment.

For EA Ghazgull Thraka Ork list I tend to take one Flakwagon in each Blitz Brigade and mechanised Warband. I have mostly played with IG hydras. Compared to which the Ork Flakwagonz have more shots but lower % chance to hit and shorter range. My standard 3k IG army would have 6 Hydras and 1 flight of 2 Thunderbolts. So for my Orks I would aim for 6-8 Flakwagonz and at least 1 flight of 3 Fighta Bommerz.

I am not convinced that Ork Flakwagonz necessarily do much damage to enemy aircraft. It seems to be more the implied threat and the knock-on effect on opponents strafing runs, plus the fact that you are placing a blast marker simply for coming under fire.

Cheers

James

Well for E40k i was gonna aim at about 6-9 flakwagons. Just because i like them :) They can give good ground fire too.

As for intercepting, i have 11 fighta bommerz. I'm just contemplating if i am gonna put them in 3 flights ( 4-4-3) or 2 flights (5-6).

Sounds good.

So far I have only used flights of 3- little bit fragile- main use for placing blast marker or harrying broken formations in lieu of artillery- will be aiming for larger games to have 1 big flight of 9 and couple of smaller flights. Will take me a while to paint that lot though.

Maybe a good idea, 2 flights of 3 and one of 5. Gives me two small ones and a big one.

I'll have to look into that :)

with my imperials i have 6 interceptors and 2 marauders. Don't know how to do it there though.

marauders in one formation and interceptors in 2 formations of 3, or 3interceptors and one marauder x2

Not sure how it works in E40K but for EA the Imperial flyers are in pairs.

in epic 40k you just choose one of them to be hq and then choose as much as you like (or have points)
