Hi guys. Since my Ultramarines chapter is almost complete I've been toying a bit with ideas for what to do next. I've aquired a couple of the new Land Raiders and also have other various odds and ends spare so I was thinking of biulding a small marine army of some sort. Trouble is what army to pick... Space Wolves: Really cool conversion possibilities and a nice break form the usual "Codex". I haven't tried to paint Space Wolves before so it might be fun. Con: With Tuffskulls amazing work the bar is set pretty high. Dark Angles: I love the colour scheme and with stuff such as Death Wing and Raven Wing painting shouldn't become too boring either Con: Uhm... Can't think of any right now... Blood Angles: Death Company! Con: Red can be a bit of a drag to paint... ----------------------------------------------------------- Another interesting option is this: I've got a near mint 1st ed. Space Marine box sitting on my shelf. I want to paint the stuff in Pre Heresy colours. One of the armies might be Black Legion/Sons of Horus as this means that I can combine the force with my planned Chaos Black Legion Army. The other army...Well? Looking at Krax's entry in the EpiComp I'm tepmted to do another of the pre heresy traitor Legions (the Black Legion could double as pre-heresy Dark Angles) The pale white of the Death Guard might be fun. Also I have a thing for the dark turquise/green colour scheme of the Salamanders/World Eaters as seen in the Rogue Trader rule book. Any ideas suggestions? Cheers! ![]() |

Hi Warmaster, the pre-Heresy stuff sounds fun, unless you like Land speeders! My own suggestion is to try the chapter I'm working on - that way you can 'compete' with someone you can easily outdo, instead of Tuffskull! ![]() Seriously, though, the Angels of Fire have loads of flames which are quite easy and fun to paint. As for a colour scheme, it should be red, which apparently you find dull to paint, but I've broken the fluff slightly and shifted to black with dull red drybrush - nice contrast to the flames. Cheers. ![]() |

Dark Angels, everyone should have a few... the rate your collection grows I wouln't be surprised if the others are added as well though WM! ![]() |

Hi! I have concentrated on three chapters. Blood Angels, Imperial Fists and Ultramarines. I guess by numerical vote the Blood Angels would have the lead.... ![]() Primarch |

Go for a successor chapter. You can use the flavor of the parent chapter, but you have a much wider selection of fun paint schemes to choose from. This link has all the GW fluff-mentioned chapters with their details as far as is known: http://www.ironhands.com/chapters.htm |

I think I support this view. If you pick Angels of Redemption You can use the Dark Angels organisation, black uniforms and still fight battles at the "present" day, and I must say I like the hooded skull chapter badge they have. ![]() The last reason is actually the one I used to decide my Chaos SM army. I mean, the world seems to be full of Black Legion, Iron Warriors, Death Guard, World Eaters and Thousand Sons. But how many Alpha Legion armies have you seen? ![]() |

You see a lot of Thousand Sons? How odd. There are only a couple around here and people steadily complain that they are too expensive (points-wise). Personally, if I were to build a 40K CSM army, it would be Alpha Legion with hordes of cultists. I think they are some of the best troops around for the price. |

All good point. ![]() I can certainly see the advantages of doing a successor chapter or a self made colour scheme. I'd prefer to do an army where I can use a black basecoat simply because it is easier. I really like this Rouge Trader era Salalmander scheme ![]() Also the pure white pre heresy Death Guard is pretty cool. I remember seeing a ppic from some event ...Possibly Games Day 2004, of a 40 Death Guard army done whis way. I think itwas a Studio member's army but I can't remember who. Well anyway it was cool! ![]() Right now I'm leaning towards something like these options: Lunar Wolves, pre Heresy Death Guard, old Salamanders (darker that the current E:A studio army), and finally pre- heresy Dark Angles. |

I think it is Will Hayes' army you are thinking of WM. IIRC there was a bit of confusion over the marines he sculpted for them; people thought FW were planning on releasing them as they were in the cabinets with his Pre-heresy land raider and some other stuff... ![]() |
