An end of the first new week, so it's time for a whole new painting log! Welcome to Watching Paint Dry 2011!

After I finished the Penguins I'm on another quick tangent and cleaning up and converting my High Elf Warmaster army for the tourney in Dover, NH next weekend. Things are progressing. I've finished the 8 Spearmen, 4 Archers and 2 Chariots.

4 Archers arching.
Image

8 stands of Spearmen with their spears removed and replaced with silk pins. It was a lot of pin vicing...

The shariots, sans crew.

I still need to clean up my Silver Helms, Reavers, Bolt Throwers and Characters and then I'll hit them all with some primer/silver paint and a wash. After that, I'm on to the Tyranids, so I'm not sure when I'll be able to get back to these guys.

Looks like you got a serious amount to paint there Dave, Is that the same stuff as in the battle of five armies! never really took my fancy the lotr in 28mm but the 6mm stuff looks pretty cool when they are all lined up and the detail seems pretty good aswell.

Still got my mithril minatures 28mm hobbit set somewhere, There pretty old know but are still outstanding sculps in my eyes even by todays standards, Look forwards to seeing your elf army painted ;)

Regards epic

Same scale (10mm), but a different range of models.

Good luck at the tourney Dave, my freind Dave(!) used to use HE for Warmaster, and they're a nasty bunch at range. Essentially the only army that can actually kill stands through shooting. 6x 3+ shooting attacks a Regiment (with Heavens Fire)is very bad news.

My palm hurts just thinking about that many spear replacements!

They're from the Warmaster line Epic. 10mm fantasy set in the Warhammer world.

Ya, the vicing began to cramp up my hand after awhile. Thankfully its done unless I decide to do the other 4 units I've got. :P

The High Elves are nearly ready for the weekend. I didn't get to the wash but everything bar the Chariots, Reavers and Bolt Throwers is primed, silvered and temporarily fixed to bases with white glue. Those later units I primed and silvered after I took this pic, I just need to base them quick tonight.

I also finished the black on 36 stands of Termagants this week. I forgot to grab a pic though, maybe tonight. I'm going to try washing them with an airbrush as well, I just need to paint the bases gray before I try that.

That's a daunting painting task there Dave! :)

I love Warmaster. I just wish there were more players in Melbourne. My Empire army hasn't seen daylight for years :(

Seeing them together like this really makes me want to paint them. Maybe I'll find room between the 'nids. We'll see what the year brings. Once the tourney's over I'll be putting them back on the cardboard so I can do them assembly line style.

Did some more work on the Guants today, 36 bases are ready for an airbrush wash now so we'll give that a try next week.

Image

I already had 8 stands washed and highlighted (test stands) so these guys just need their bases finished.

I tried spraying the archers with a black wash last week. It didn't do what I hoped it would though and ended up tinting everything black. I went back and hit everything with a silver drybrush and no harm was done.
Image

The gaunts I ended up washing by hand. It didn't take a huge amount of time but it would have been nice if the airbrush wash worked out better. I but done the base color for the base as well and that got a wash too.
Image

12 of the 36 stands have the black highlights done now too. I should be able to finish up the rest, drybrush the bases and do the base edges in the next week or two. These came together a lot quicker than I thought they would.

looking good Dave - the nid painting factory is getting up to speed! It'll certainly be neat to see a fully painted army in action, swarming over those much contested ork buildings :)

Ya, as of last night they're all highlighted. Just the final base drybrush and the edging left. I'm looking forward to seeing it on the table painted as well. Hopefully I'll have a 3k one done for NEAT IV.

Those Orks are definitely going to need to call Billy the Exterminator.

The Nid scheme looks great, and it is always great to see Warmaster armies.

The Termagants are coming along. I finished their highlights this past Monday. All that's left is a drybrush for the base and then the base edging. Hopefully I'll be able to get to that this weekend, if not then definitely Monday. After that it's onto the Hormagaunts.

I tried out the Codex Grey drybrush on one stand, I thought it worked out pretty well. Definitely got to be careful though when working around the painted bugs.

looking really good Dave. How many stands left to paint? Or is that like asking a felon how many days until he's out?!
