I just got out my Epic Tau I purchased before christmas (making th most out of free p&p... yeah, I bought a lot).
Is there many people out there who collect and painted Epic Tau?
Finding it a nightmare. Took the advice about washing them a bit and broke the sword off the Battlesuit commander. Once washed, cleaning it up a bit proved a bit tedious... and then they don't actually fit to the base very well in the respect that it leaves a lot of gap... so looks like i'll be flocking the bases.
Seems a lotta hassle for what they are worth.

Got one or two packs of each model F/W makes for the T&K. All are SIB ! And that's my complaint about all F/W Epic ... too delicate. Fortunately, I've had few mishaps, but they are an accident waiting to happen, IMO ...

Yes, besides being very expensive ... the F/W stuff is too fragile ... and in some cases hard to paint. And we give these people our $$$ because ... ?

I've got enough for a mid-sized army. Haven't gotten to painting them yet, but they're next up once I finish some other stuff.
I've encountered the resin-painting problems you describe with FW Hydras. Paint just wouldn't stick, no matter how well I washed the models. Since then, I've had success with spray priming other resin models; spray paint seems to stick.
I actually bought an airbrush to work with the FW Tau. Once I get some results, I'll surely post about it...

Good point, I'm guessing water base paints, which I like above all others, maybe the problem ...

Well I knew about spray paints working, probs is, we're talking about epic here, trying to spray paint these seems like overkill. But may think about this next time when I plan to do a large batch sorta thing.

Hi Lextar,
I have a force of Tau and I mainly spray my figs all black. ?Sometimes it works and others dont. ?I have found that once I sprayed it and parts flake I just paint over using a brush and so far so good. ?I have a lot to paint and I cant say I have 100k like Primarch but then again I havent counted the points cost. ?Needless to say I really like them and enjoy gaming with Tom(Netepic).
A few examples of some of the Tau can be looked at here

Tom and I decided we would do some daily logs but Tom only seems to comment on my stuff. ?Hopefully he will be able to take pics and show us what he has got.

I agree. Awsome work Doug.
I've found that a thin white spray works allright to give future layers of paint something to attatch to. However be carefull and only spray LIGHT! When I did myy Grey Knight Terminators I got too much and ruined some of the detail. For my regular GKs I've painted Mithril Silver directly on the resin. It works great but I don't think it will work for thinner colours of paint. Black spray works perfectly well on larger miniatures but the paint has a tendency to be thicker than white so be carefull when using it on infantry.
Like Jimbo said the paint sometimes still chip off but you can repair it by addding some paint underneath the chip like "glue". Resin minis are a bit annoying in that respect. My Gargantuan Squiggoth (from EpiComps got damaged on the teetch only hours after the paint job was complete. It is as if the paint is nothing more than a layer "on top" of the resin...it doesn't "bite" so to speak.
Cheers!
