If you follow the E:A forum, you will know I'm building an ork speed freek horde. Then I came to this problem:
How do you paint an army that flies away when you blow in its direction?
Spray paint would simply blow it away, and I'm not sure how well the paint would stay on carboard (which is the main component).

Anybody have any ideas?

If you are using card stock, it's best to do what's called a "mist coat" or a "dust coat" where you just barely spray it with primer.  This allows the outer layer to seal, but doesn't add so much paint that the card absorbs it and starts to either fuzz up or even warp.

Keep a good distance between the spray nozzle and the pieces, enough that it is almost settling onto it as much as being sprayed onto it.  It should look sort of like you are "fogging" the pieces.

In fact, with card stock it might be best to use coats that are so light it takes 2 or even 3 coats to make sure it's completely sealed.  By that time, it should have a good even coat that covers everything and protects the mini underneath.  Make sure you let the paint completely dry.  Luckily, such light coats dry quickly, but it's best to err on the side of caution.  If in doubt, wait, because a second coat too soon will just soak in and do as much damage as if you sprayed a heavier coat all at once.

It's a little time intensive, but I suspect it will be worth it to safeguard your scratch-built pieces.
