IMO the old Skullhamma looks like it is just a battlewagon. Whatever the case I want my Skullhamma to be nothing short of a Battle Fortress. With that in mind I have decided to build a new one. The goal is for it to look like it might carry 8 stands of orks and 4 grots. I also want it to have the proppa armament of 4 twin big shootas and a big gun.
See, too small...

the parts I thought I might use or would be useful;

The deciding factor would be how the tracks and wheels turned out. First step was to pic the road wheels and add tracks;

Well, I think it works, in this pic is also the beginning of the turrets;

here is a view with other minis for comparison. There is still a tremendous amount of work left to do so I will get back to it.

Even though I just started it today I am looking forward to scratchbuilding a Giblet Grinda in future.

comments and suggestions welcome.

Very nice. Can you bring the front wheels back a bit so they line up with the front of the cab? Likewise the treads, the rear road wheel axle appears to be outside the chassis. But a very good start. Wish I could get my Orks to look that orky. I can do the building, but things always end up so clean.

Spectrar Ghost, those pics were dry fitted with the hull sitting on a small stack of plastic. The front wheels in the initial pics are just sitting next to it loose.

Now the tracks are glued but the front wheels are still dry fitted and have a crude axle. The front wheels will get glued on tomorrow after I make better suspension for them. I am debating on adding a reinforced ram. I think all the exhaust pipes will come out of the back. Heck, I might even make optional riders for the back Deck.
Oh yeah, there is a spacer between the tracks and the fender thingy that will get pulled tomorrow to leave a gap above the tracks. I also think I will add the metallic looking tread plate material to said fender also. So much to do...

Each lower turret will have twin big shootas as will the firing port in the hull below those turrets. The grey turret will represent the big gun unless I build a new turret for it. I suppose I could make alternate big gun turrets so it could be a Gun Fortress.

progress (all wheels and tracks in this pic dry fit)

Looks awesome! I may or may not ever use my Orks again, but I really need to do more scratchbuilding for them. Did a bit of work on my Gargant tonite, but that's a story for a different thread.

I also find my battlefortresses and gunfortresses too small. have 2 multipart tanks to convert. Will loot some ideas from you.

I was faced with a decision,a traditional Skullhamma or a three turreted skullhamma?
I agonized over it.

Anyway, I decided on the three turreted version.

Now for paint.

edit;
base coated

something i threw together waiting for the paint on the skullhamma to dry. I'm not sure if this will evolve into a finished mini. If it does it will be a speed freak.

The red is done. I'll detail it tomorrow.

Should I rename this thread and make it a log for all my Ork builds in the future?

Wonderful update to an old model & I like the bulked up size. Not to mention it's refreshing to see a rework of a true Skullhamma instead of a Baneblade with crap all over it. ;)

Regarding the boiler vs turret, you can always magnetize. Braxat2000 did an excelent convertible battlefortress/gunfortress that way.

I always like grab-bag threads over threads for each mini. It's easier for me to say, "Oh, that's in MekBoyAndy's thread, now what page?" than to search threads by author to find it. That's an amazing build, love it. Two questions: what did you use to detail the treads? Half-round strips? And who makes the metal treadplate you used?
