Funny thing about epic. It is sooo tiny that some mistakes get missed until pics are taken... too much yellow in the pics also.

I was inspired by what I have seen on this site and rebased this army as a result. The wood disks I used are a bit on the large side but I feel that the area works well for the number of minis. They are just over 30mm across so are fine according to the rules. I plan on ordering acrylic disks from Litko for my Orks.

here is the my Ultramarines army at this point. I still need vindicators.

This is a close up of the termies and thier Land Raiders. Many of the termies have been converted for variety. The Dread is a plastic mini modified to look more like the 40k forgeworld contemptor.

A close up of a Land Raider.

This Land Raider was modified to be explorator with a a hunter AA system to represent a CV10 HQ in FWC. It works well as just the Hunter attached to the Termie detatchment.

If I need to upgrade a Land Raider to a commander I will use this. I converted it a while back to be a crusader.

This Tactical Detachment has some Veterans. I guess they could be used as commander stands.

This is a commander stand for my scout detachment. I modified old beakies to be my scouts because it is silly for scouts to be larger than marines....

Comments welcome.

Great detail touches with the scratch building, nice freehands. Be neat to see all your scratch builds before paint, and/or tips on working precisely.

In regards to your statment about 'mistakes', the camera, and Epic scale, I think how the minis look at gaming distance are just as important if not more important than macro zoom shots with a camera. Sometimes what looks great with the camera closeups looks muddy and 'ant like' on the gaming table.

Wow that is some awesome work!!
I'll bet it doesnt look as yellow in person, darn cameras!

These wooden disks, are they 1mm or 2mm? Ive gone with 2mm Laser cut ones from ebay recently [I like chunky edges], but these you've done look awesome...!
Ben.

I love all your conversions, the land raider crusader is particularly cool.

Did you freehand all of those Crux Terminatus symbols or are mine missing some details? I suspect the former so well done if so!

What a fantastic army, really love the vehicle conversions and great work on the painting. I have started using round bases for some of my units too, i get mine custom cut from fenris games, 1.5mm ply.

I like the base colour scheme, what colours did you use please.

Thanks for the compliments.

All of the Symbols are free handed on with a production line method. The crux Terminatus were probably the most involved and up close may lack detail but from normal viewing distance look fine. The mind fills in the blanks. The Ultramarines symbols were far easier than the space wolves symbols on my other army. I would use decals if i could but even if they are made they would be a bit too fiddly.

For Nandalf and moredakka;
I get my disks from Michaels Craft Store. These stores are all over the place here in the states. The brand name is Woodsies. There are bags of rounds and bags of squares with about 130 pieces in each bag (in the rounds anyway). All woodsies are 2mm thick in sizes;
Rounds; small (12mm across), medium ( 21mm across, attack bikes and dreads) and the large ( 32mm, infantry).
Squares; small (15mm sides), medium ( 28mm sides ) and large (40mm sides). I will probably cut some down for vehicle bases.
I think the tiny bases can be used as blast markers and other counters, maybe even paving pieces on a city board.
At 3$ a bag it does not bother me to have a bunch extra.

I prime in white and base color with multiple layers of thinned regal blue. It may take a few seperate coats but final base color is deep and rich. I then mix regal blue with vallejo medium blue (model color 963) to varied degrees and use drybrushing and targeted highlights. I don't mix in white to lighten the shades, I use formula P3 menoth white as the highlight mix and for the Ultramarine symbols. Its more like an old school bleached bone.

2x reading glasses from a dollar store for magnification. They are cheap and I have had mine for a decade..

Thanks for the painting guide on the figures, but i was interested in the colours for the ground your marines are standing on as i have been looking to achieve a similar look for my own bases.

Cheers
