And so it begins. I have decided to start the Epic Construction Workshop today. The rules are:

Each three week period focusses on a specific unit in Epic. For that three weeks, anyone can build a miniature to represent that unit in the game, and then post their ideas and instructions.

Each thread containing these instructions should have the prefix [ECW], and I (or one of the mods) will then pin the thread.

The thread should be left open, to allow others to comment on the construction.

At the end of the three weeks, all threads will be unpinned, and I will compile them into an article for www.epic40k.co.uk. A new unit will be selected and the process will be repeated.

You can construct your representation in any way that you like, use and parts from anywhere and scratch build what you want. The main goal of this is to provide ideas.

However, do bear in mind that others may want to be inspired by your ideas. To make it easier for them...

Try to provide clear instructions and part descriptions (with part codes where possible).

Try to keep to miniatures and parts that are as easy to get hold of as possible.

Most people are familiar with the GW range, bear that in mind.

Try to keep the costs down as much as possible, people are unlikely to purchase a Stompa Mob at ?20 because they need a Supa Stompa left foot.

In a perfect world, we would all be able to keep to these, but we all know that it is not a perfect world. If you want to use obscure bits and ancient parts that are no longer available, then go ahead. However, it may be useful to also suggest alternatives for the newer collecters who become inspired by your masterpiece.

So, the unit to kick us off is...

Monday 21st Feb 2005 - Sunday 20th Mar 2005
Chaos Alter

I wanted to get something that would allow people to go to town for the first unit. With this, you can really let your imagination go. I considered selecting a specific Chaos power, but in the end I will let you do as you will.

Good luck, and have fun with it. Thanks.

Hi,

Good to see this underway. Let the fun begin!

I've got a few ideas already, but don't have the bits (or the money to splash on them) right now. I'll get some sketches done to see if anyone else can build them.

Q1: Are there any old versions of this mini, or is it a new unit for E:A?

Q2:(If answer to Q1 is yes) Are there any pictures/sketches already made by GW?

Cheers,
Freshmetal

Ouch, that sounds painful!

The Chaos Altar is a completely new unit, and no previous preconceptions exist - one of the reasons that I want to use it to kick off with.

Hi,

Just a few thoughts of suitable bits. I don't really know what bits could come from WFB/40k, but I think Chaos, Dark Eldar and Dark Elves all have sufficiently grusome stuff.

Available:
Warmater Seige Towers
Warmaster Empire War Altar
BFG Dark Eldar and Chaos Boosters

OOP stuff:
Chaos Daemons, esp Bloodthirster and Khorne Daemon Angron ???
Chaos War Engines, esp the Cauldron of Blood and Deathdealer

Cheers,
Freshmetal

I'd think of looking to the IG or Ork superheavies (or even a military model of a similar size) for a chassis for this thing. Give it some weight and some gravitas (and space for cavorting cultists).

Maybe use Daemon beasts from Warhamster or the original Epic chaos sprue to pull the thing if it's a desecrated imperial vehicle?

And if it's Slaaneshi, it's got to have the BIGGEST sound system in the universe on board (and a Disaster Area logo somewhere). \m/    \m/

There has been a great amount of interest in the Epic Construction Workshop, and I really pleased at the discussion that has already started about this. Keep it up. I did just want to clarify that threads will only be pinned and considered 'ready' when there is a picture of a finished mini posted. It doesnt need to necessarily be painted, but I dont want to pin and archive threads with ideas until they have been implemented. That said, I am finding the think-tank interesting.

Audrey: I was wondering if there's been made any changes to the stats of the Chaos Altar or are the ones in the Playtest Vault up to date? (sorry I don't attend the SG forum as much as I ought to in order to keep myself updated on all the Playtest lists  :{  )

Cheers! :)

Depends.  If you have the L&D 2.1 pdf then you are set.  There has not been any changes to the Chaos Altar since then.  I am starting the beginning of the review process now in the EA forum for an update to 2.2 sometime in March.

Just one week left for this round, and we have a picture of a completed model (well done Audrey). Any more on the way?  :;):
