Hi all,
after years and years of denial, I finally bought a few blisters of Imperial Epic stuff from GW. Expensive, but the models are good. I hadn't opened a blister in ages (well, since last month, when some still packed stuff arrived from CC - cheers Commissar!).
Now, if anyone is interested in a review of the beasties I bought, just reply and I'll deliver (sorry, too busy to do so on automatic!).
Anyway, here's my small vbox of loot:
1 blister of Ragnaroks (I'm a sucker for the KV2, and the Ragnarok is too close for not falling for it)
1 blister of Steel Legion Rough Riders (I'm for some reason becoming a fan of cavalry in the 40K environment - poor horses, though)
1 IG character pack (nice Ogre with gasmask! - I like the psyker too)

The rest are flighty SM stuff:
1 blister Drop Pods (plop!)
1 BOX with the huge Landing craft - whee - now how the heck do you put this together? (sounds of a happy enginseer!) ?:D - I get the feeling this thingy will become the CI or Hellbore of the future, so make sure you get yours, boys and girls. ?:D

Thank Vanvlak, I really like the Rags too, and for much the same reason :D
Are the metal RR a new sculpt or as the plastic attilans?
I suspect you're right about the landing craft, I have avoided it so far but that's another nudge in it's direction, thanks a lot :p

Ok, here goes a very brief review.
(1) Ragnarok tanks
30mm long, 20mm wide 18mm high thanks to its large turret, this gives the feel of a very large tank, even though its definitely not a superheavy. Nice stowed equipment on either side of the tracks, sandbags round the cupola, locker and hatch and stowed equipment details, and two minute turrets which can be oriented anywhere within a 90degree arc each - plus the 360 degrees of turret position. Some driver and idler wheel detail peeping round the side armour, not too clear, but nothing serious. An irritating mould line gives some flash on these side armour plates, but again, nothing which cannot be handled. Nice, solid, and not too flexible gun barrel. Nice tank, overall - and one of my favourites.
Rough Riders
Not the Attilans, I believe, as these guys have what appears to be a gas mask or scarf or something - nice touch. The horses are very nicely done, and quite delicate - their legs are terribly flexible, especially compared to the strength of the base - sprue attachment! Don't try to pull these off! The troopers have a heavy-looking back pack and a nicely-detailed lance. They're all identical, and they come with 6 flat plastic bases (40 x 20mm), 3 nags per base. A bit less flash would have helped - these will take a lot of fiddly cleaning! Hell to paint too - but a nice touch on the 40K battlefield.
Character pack
Ok, I got 6 sprues of 5 models each (except for the one with the Ogryn, who appears to take up an extra place!), and no less than 8 standard troop plastic bases.
I have 3 different sets:
3 off - officer with power sword, radio man, sanctioned psyker, officer, commissar with power fist and boltgun - the psyker is a hunched figure, nice touch. These seem to be company command sets.
2 off - hooded officer, standard, hooded type with Aquila (ideal for conversion to Ad Mech!), hooded officer with power fist and sword, commissar with Yarrick-type power claw - the hoods and the commissar are great, and the standard is glorious.
1 off - ogryn with gas mask, another (different) standard, a very senior looking officer with two bolt pistols wearing a hood, and another hooded type with power sword and bolt pistol - you can clearly see its a power sword, exceptional detail here!
29 figures, and all those shown in the online store pic are here! Huzzah! And with very very few mould lines showing.
Drop pods
Space mariney stuff now; a bit overpriced, these, as you get two bases, two cores each with a fin attached, and several other fins you have to glue on to the core. Some nice panel detail, but otherwise less impressive than anything else in this purchase. Pity there's no payload, although this can be rectified. Require some easy flash and mould line removal. Not too small though, larger than the SM era ones - base diameter around 35mm, height around 30mm
Landing craft
As I said, this one is the CI/Hellbore of the future. The must-have. 110mm long, 70mm wide, and around 35mm high, tail and all. Can be assembled on flying base or on landing pads, and the front door can be left open, although all there is inside is some floor detail. The bits are ideal for conversion work! if you can afford it, anyway.... I can't, and although I'm sorely tempted, this is one model I won't mess about with .... much. Due to the bulkiness of the fore and aft bits, pinning to the narrow fuselage is recommended. For all its size you get some very fiddly twin-linked bolters. The detail is good all round; not too much flash, mould lines generally easy to remove. My one gripe is the rear area which is hollow and quite empty from below - but plasticard can fix this easily. You get 3 gantries slung along and under the fuselage, with hangers on either side, giving yu 6 carry points. But what could go there? Well - troop containers, which would have to be scratch built; or vehicles. Pity that the old Rhino is too small, and the 'new' (E40K plastic) Land Raider too big. Each hanger is 20mm long, with almost no space between any hanger and the next one - or the fore or aft bulkheads. Thus the old LRs' hulls are too short for the hangers, and their tracks too long! Something will crop up, though... Lots of potential for conversion without harming the model, and agnet experts could be rewarded... the FW Thunderhawks carrying stuff could be a source of inspiration.

That's all folks - ask away. :D
