OK, possibly a daft question, but here goes - would Tech-Guard vehicles be painted in the usual deep red of the Mechanicus, or would thy have a more sensible camo colour scheme?

If L4 owned them they have a more sensible camo color scheme. :;):

Serious, I would use a more realistic color because it is who I am, but knowing the 40k background and attitude, the Red would not be out of line.

hi Dysartes,
as a member of the profession, I can dictate that the Ad.Mech. uses two colour schemes - either red or sand. Which should cover all polarizations in favour of bright or camo colours. A mix of both is acceptable. Complementary colours are yellow (in small amounts), white, black, tinbitz, brass (not too much or you're Khornate), copper, silver and gun-metallish and steel shades. Blue and green cables are acceptable.

I''m painting most of my Tech Guard in the deep red AM colours. The Tanks however get  "Mars" camo of Teracotta/Shadow grey on a zig zag pattern. (Sorry, no pics yet)

Cheers! :)

 I knew it...

But then, I am into the realistic paint colors myself.

I even remember seeing a photo of Marines in camo back in the early days. Man how they have gone ultra bright now.

That one sounds quite cool, I must admit. I'll probably be using my IG infantry anyway, but any AdMech vehicles* will get their own paint scheme.

I painted a few Ad Mech vehicles to go with the arctic research base I made earlier this year.
I thought theywould look weird in red, so I did them in my basic white camo scheme, but with a regular stripe of deep red over the hull to make their allegiance clear, with a little scythe symbol on it...

Yes, "back in the old days", SMs were seen in camo colors. However, with the "dumbing down" during the release of SM2, in an attempt to get the children interested "with bright shiny colors" ...  Well at least the IG of today are generally tactical ... :;):
