I am hereby announcing the launch of my new secret project.
It will develop in the form of a Diary similar to Tuffskull, Vanvlak and Cybershadow's though I don't plan to be doing any daily updates.

I am however keeping it a secret exactly what this diary is about as I'm still doing a few test pieces to see if it will work... Tease, Tease... :p

Cheers!

Dammit Tas; That IS the secret project! I am currently getting "fixed"... :p

No seriously: remember a couple of weeks ago I mentioned that I'd landed a deal on some IG?
I've been busy stripping paint while I was ponderingg what to doo with all these new miniatures. I couldn't decide if I should keep paintng them as my current Desert IG army. To be honest I'm getting pretty sick of spraying white, washing Snakebite leather and doing green camo patches.
In the deal there were both old "Codex" guardsmen, and 12 spures of the 40k IG. This left me with the option of doing either a Catachan, Cadian, Valhallan or Death Korps of Krieg army. Since my terrain boards are all dessert the Valhallan were discarded but I really couldn't decide between the rest.
The solution: I'm doing three seperate IG armies!
Actually it bears reminescants to the SM/TL days where most of the Studio Army was painted in a quite dizzying ammount of different colour schemes. I don't think (hope) it will look too out of place to field various faction together.
I'm mainly constructing the armies according to SM/Netepic rules with a few minor exceptions (eg. I'm 6 stands short of being able to field an entire tactical company of catachans).

Last night I did a few test pieces to test the colour schemes for the Cadian force. I've settled for a simple "Army green" drybrush of Catachan green and Camo green over black undercoat which should be really simple to do and will make a nice break from the endless masses of Desert camo.

The Cadian force itself consists of two tactical companies, a heavy company two artillery companies, twwo Super heavy Tank companies, A Capitol Imperialis and some Russes. Also It will probably contain a few Ogryns and Ratlings for the variety. For air support the force will draw from my existing Imperial navy.

The Catachan army consists of a tactical company a "Sentinel recon company", Ogryns (Maybe I'll do a company sized formation of these) ?a few ratlings, a squadron of Russes and Medusas.

The Death Korps of Krieg is based arround a gorgon company (Siegfried Tanks and Siege infantry company) and an artillery company (150mm Howitzers w. transports) with some Rough Riders (Death Riders I believe they're called?), 88mm Kondor Flak guns and somoe Thudd guns and Rapiers.

I've tried to incorrporate a few "Trademarks" form the codex into each army (Ogryns and Sentinels in the Catachan army as an example) to give some extra character. Of course changes and modifications are bound to occur as the project progresses. -I want to include more Russes in all the armies adn the Death Korps could use some more infantry.

Here's a link to mmy Briefcase which contains a few shots of the test pieces Secret Project

Cheers! :)

Looks good Warmaster!
Can't wait to see the old CI painted up. I can see some of the old Manticore missile launchers too - does anyone know what the mace-like object stuck to the missiles (can't be seen in the angle of your photo, WM) is meant to be? Some sort of sensor array? Or a device for bumping off unwary Commissars* as the launcher rotates?

I allways assumed that the Ball-thing was some sort of sensor/range measuring sevice/commissarkicker. It was cut off the models when I got them -that's why thay can't be seen in the pics -can't say that I'm sorry... It never looked very good IMO...

Cheers!

Update1!
I painted up a company of Forge World Baneblades today.
Black spray undercoat followed by a drybrush of Catachan green and highlight drybrush of Camo green Metal bits were first painted gun metal and then a silver/black mix.
Update1
I also began work on a StormHammer and a battery of Manticores but these still need some detail work before they re finished.

Cheers! :)

Nice work Warmaster... your FW superheavies completely dwarf the old metals.. as they rightly should of course..   :;):

Yeah... I'm having mixed feelings about that ???  The mk1 Shadowsword looks a bit smalller but not horribly out of place. The problem really arises with the Stormhammer. It's a fairly small model for a super heavy to begin with and next to the Baneblades they looks really tiny! :(
I have been toying with the idea of redeploying the Storm hammers to the Death Korps of Krieg army.

Cheers!

Very Nice !!! ?I wouldn't worry about the size difference, I have all the G/W & F/W S/Heavies and I just keep them in seperate dets. Real world AFV sizes vary, look at the vehicles used in the France '40 battles, for example ! ? :;):

I  have a solution to your size problem! You only need to sell those Stormhammers to me and I'll take good care of them...  }:)
