Day 41, Final Day, 30th November
I mentioned above that it was my sister's birthday today & as such the usual family celebrations were in order. These were planned to end around lunchtime, but as I mentioned in another thread, carried on well past that into early evening.
Even so, I'm now hitting the paints with renewed vigour & am making process. Whilst the paint is drying, a quick update:
The first of two Fire Support platoon is done:
However, I really dont like the autocannon on these. They look better in person, but still really rather pants... ("pants" = bad, just thought that might sound weird outside the UK... or even inside....). I'll be using a different method on the second platoon & if I get time I'll redo these as well. Thats my first re-paint in this project, predictably occuring on the last day. Typical. Once again prooving that only "Sod's Laws" are never broken.....
Back to it..... more later... ?

I declare it done.....
There are still some details & markings I'll add after I've played some games and know the final organisation I'll be using, but its the 1st December tomorrow & that marks the end of major work on this army for the time being.
After much fiddling & many re-starts trying to get something I like onthe heavy teams, I've ended up using a simple bubonic brown & brown wash scheme on the autocannon which was one of my first tests, and turned out to be the best of a bad lot.
With them done & some highlights to aircraft undersides, the force is in a good state for hitting the battlefield in 8 days time when "The Desert Ferrin" have their gaming Debut. Here they are, rolling into combat:
Didnt I mention that I did a little ?scenery too? ?
If my posts sounded a little rushed today for only paiting 8 stands of heavies, thats why. With time running down fast, I resorted to drastic measures to dry some sand for the new table.....
I've been wanting to find a good use for my Timecast scenics for a while. They dont fit any of my other collections, so they had to be a set on their own. This was the perfect oppertunity to put them into action.
A splash of extra sand & a quick lick of paint & they fit the desert theme rather well I think. I have some more on order to complete a decent new-colony style set. Expect more on them in the future.
I'll write up a full painting article on this army for Incoming ASAP. I'll also be documenting the army on my own website when I get around to doing some updates (so 2210 then...) with detail shots of each unit, battle history as they gain it, new additions etc. (if Tom / Doug would like to mirror the basic army list & detail shots on the EpicCenter, I can forward a copy when I've written it.)
Thanks for viewing - I probably wouldnt have got this done if it wasnt for the audience - Time for a break! ?

The scenics
Just for the full sense of completeion, here's a couple of detail shots of the timecast scenics.
Rock was basecoated in snakebite, then drybrushed with Bubonic brown. Domes & buildings were then painted Bubonic & sand glued to any horizontal flat areas. When that was dy, whole lot was drybrushed in bleached bone - Sand heavily, the rest far lighter. Thinned brown wash was then applied to all buildings & black details added to air vents.
Solar power station was given Mithril silver solar panels, washed with blue ink.
The Hydroponics farm has had its two "fields painted differently. 1 is blue & will have some details added for a watery effet. the other is green & will have a mixture of flocks added (or something else when I make up my mind....)

Quote (TuffSkull @ 30 2003 Nov.,22:53) | With them done & some highlights to aircraft ...... | I should point out that the Support squads are still missing their Mortors.
When I came to making them this evening, I discovered that I'm out of the wire I use for them so they will be added as soon as I can get to the shops & re-stock!
Again, thanks for viewing & all the kind comments throughout

Beautiful! I've picked up enough good vibes, just by looking at that army, to last me for a week! You're da man, Mr. Skull.

Well done mate, top stuff as per usual!
The two diaries have actually inspired me to get down to getting on with my Eldar.. currently two-three stands a day are getting done to a decent standard- soon my mountain of unpainted sprues and metals will have slightly diminished! - so cheers for the inspiration as well as all the pics of great models! ?

Congratulations TS! You managed it! In about the same time as I half painted 18 stands of infantry :S.
Jealousy aside, I would love to host your report in the Epic:A section of the EPICentre - tho, I will also add it to the Painting/Modelling section to avoid confusion .
I look forward to seeing the Incoming! article.
