Day 14, Monday 3rd November, Day of waffling posts

I seem to have spent a great deal of time today posting very long winded, generally not interesting messages on this board. My appologies for this, but typing at the same rate I speak means I waffle as much in both mediums when I dont watch myself!

I'll try to keep this one quick, since its got enough actual content to interest somone out there ?:-:

I've made a start on the infantry!
Only as much as to re-base (remove blue-tac & glue down) 8 stands and do one test piece, but it is a step in the right direction.

More importantly, before I went away I dug up a model I'd forgotten I owned and got a real urge to paint it!
I resisted the temptation to go over the top on it, but have instead painted it up in the colours of the speed IG army and will be using it as a Leviathan.

Question is:
I automatically made a double circle base for it as I have done with some of my other really big machines. However, do you think it will look out of place when everything else is based on rectangles? Should I make a square base for it with plasticard instead?
Its not glued down yet so I can change it, I just wanted to gauge some opinions as I cant decide!

you know I read through this and after painting for like a week(last week)or so myself, I just wonder how you manage not to get cramp or backache.  I had been painting about 7-8 hours a day for a week and it did me in. I feel much better taking a break, although I am up for more painting next week.  how do you manage such long runs?

Doug

Hi!

Once a very long time ago, when I actually painted, I used to do it laying down. That way I painted 8-10 hours straight, without much back pain.

I quite like the double circle base.

I find large square bases a bit...

I don't know, I just prefer round. :L

As an aside, I found today that Essex Miniatures do pre-cut, rectangular plastic bases. They are 3mm thick and come in a variety of sizes. I have got some for another project, but they do 6cm x 3cm and 4cm as well as other sizes. Worth checking out.

You mean painting laying on your stomach right Primarch? On your back could be...fun!

How do you make the double bases Tuff? I like the look of 'em!

Cheers

I made a double base for my Imperator, which looks eactly the same as Tuffskull's- I just sawed out a small crescent from one of the round bases and slotted the other one into the gap...

Yeah, I thought about it for an Emperor titan. I thought it was as simple as that, but then I though "nah, it must be harder!" It obviously isn't! As the saying goes - Keep it simple stupid (Kiss)

Cheers

Day 15, Tuesday 4th November - The day of, well, Bleugh.....

Came home from work with good intentions. Did my surfing rounds & started work on a few more infantry stands. I've now done 2 very quick test pieces, and not being able to decide between them am probably going to do one company one scheme and the second company the other scheme.

However, shortly after the first drybrush, the phone went & the Pub beckoned.

However (again...), an hour into the banter (chatting in case thats a non-universal phrase) at the pub I started to feel really.. well... Just 'Bleugh' and returned home. This feeling of having Nurgle's Mother-in-law sitting on my shoulder remained for the rest of the night and through to today. I am off to work shortly, but nout has been painted worth photographing I'm afraid ?:(

I'll see if I can squeeze anything in tonight. I'm meant to be going out on my weekly mini-pub-crawl, but both that and painting depend on Nurgle's Mother-in-law......

Day 17, Thursday 6th November, Day of Irony

Well, you gotta love the irony of Life. As mentioned, I'm down with some bug I picked up from my GF last weekend (visited her on the way to camp).
However, simple flu bugs like this send my doctors reeling in panic that they might trigger larger problems with all my medical obscurities. Thus, today, I've been "doped up to rattling point" (referring to the number of pills rattling inside me) to hopefully prevent anything major. The irony is that by taking all this preventative stuff, I'm not allowed out & actually feel worse for 48 hours. Go figure.....

So, not much is being done I'm afraid. Similarly, I guess I should mention, that whilst I sincerely hope it doesnt happen, if something does go "mammaries vertical", I may be doing a dissapearing act once again for a while & the project will go on hold.

Anyway, I have a couple of pics of my infantry tests. One has been given an extra drybrush (if that phrase can ever be used with the new, super thin, citadel paints!) of Desert Yellow. I'm doing my first company without the extra highlight, but may use it on the command company when I get to it.

These infantry are being done fast and so are not particularly neat, but they'll do until I get time to upgrade if I really want to at some later stage.

Anyway, let me know what you think as I havent done much on the rest yet (1st coat on 6 stands) and can easily change the system!

Other than these, I recieved a second warhound from Fanatic yesterday. This time I'm very lucky & get to keep it in my own collections so have set to it with my mini-drill's grinding block & removed the carapace eagle. This actually took quite a long time & work will continue in amongst this project. It wont be painted at quite the rate of the rest of the force! ?
