Post subject:  New painter hi !

Like any good "blip" I've spent a fair bit of time lurking off this board... Don't be alarmed ! Not even one 4-armed xenos here! just a player old enough to know better than playing with toy soldiers but doing it anyway ( i sometimes make tank noises - ok, too much info ? ;D

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone on the forums for the amazing job the community (here and worldwide) is doing with the Epic game (all flavours.) Not only the amazing rules compendiums etc, but also probably the most friendly, mutually supportive and non-bitchy wargaming forum I've ever come across. Must be something to do with epic players being more intelligent or something... ( i was going to say mature, but let's be honest, they're still toys ;-)

Anyway, filled with all the amazing inspiration from you guys (read - i'm planning to steal loads of your ideas) i've finally dug my paints out after nearly a 15 year hiatus (some were even still runny) to put a few tanks on the table and try to convince some old friends to get all Epic, all over again...

Without further ado ( great word - use it more! ), here are the first efforts :

After a couple of EpicA test games, i realised that 3 battle companies of Marines plus armour, air transport and support ( painted roughly 1997 with Epic2nd Ed. very much in mind ) was probably more thank i'll ever need. [ I'll post up my Space Marines when i convert their markings over to unit sizes suitable for Epic A. ]

But with at least another 6 companies sitting in various stages paint-distress, the question had to be : what to do with the rest? The better stuff will prob go to a friend to do some space puppies, however there is a lot of mark 6 here... and they just aren't as big, or even really the same style as those "other" mk.7 genetically modified super-soldiers...

As i'm doing things on the cheep at first, these guys are going to proxy for an Imperial Guard (ducks the flack.) In time i may get hold of some more "normal" infantry (prob EW or DRM) and these may get promoted to storm troopers, but for now think enviro-suits not power armour, ok? (yeah, i know, with no helmets... it is still GW ;-)

Not sure why the last photo repeated, but onwards... to the tanks. To be honest, I've always thought the Mk 1 LR looked better in more "realistic" colours. Plus, as a child of Rogue Trader i can remember the long distant past when IG could field them anyway. Go easy, this was my first go at "weathering" but i'm fairly pleased so far.

Plus, just for a giggle, here's what i had to strip off to get these done. Arhhh, the golden-age of the early 90s, when marines went to war in bright shiny orange and never got a scratch...

PS. Can anyone tell me where i go to change my password ?

I took some time away in a similar fassion, now, well what can I say, I am additcted and I have three boys all getting into it. It has become a family event in my house. Plenty of friends of similar age to playing across Australia. Where are you at Blip?

Hi all,

Thanks for comments and encouragement - not sure i'd describe myself as "aged" (only on a weekend in my local GW store ) but i guess aging First purchase was White Dwarf 142 - launch of 2nd ed Epic and a massive article detailing how to paint an epic Blood Angels army - i think it may have had a lasting effect... ! :-)

'fraid real life got in the way of game life last week, but one of several achievements is i that now have a new (to me) little car at 1800mm scale - thankfully it doesn't require painting :-P

Anyhow, with nothing new to show, i thought i'd put up a couple of Warhounds I painted back around 1997. They usually bolster my Marine army (which i'll photograph some time) and kinda show the more "high 40k" approach to colour schemes i used to take. One day i may take some new paint to the rest of my 90s titans and the "Storm Heralds" Titan Legion may take to the dining table in force...

One other thing. I did manage to mail order some "Brigade" 6mm minis and i'm posting up some reviews and comparison pics on the main 6mm Miniatures board for the community's general info.

Great paint job. Nice to see another old gamer surviving hiatus for a return to Epic:A. The tanks look great. It took me several years to accept the MkII Land Raiders as non-heretic. It was also nice to get a 90's overdose of bright colours. Go Evil Sunz-marines.

Hi Blip,
cool marines and Warhounds
I really like the heads and lightnings
I tried similar lightnings on my Squat Cyclops
but it didn`t work out that well :)
