Now that I've finished my Stormraven, it looks too detailed next to the old Thundwerhawk. ![]() As I "started" scratch building my own Thunderhawk a few years ago, its time to finish it off along the lines of the Stormraven... any idea what I can do to improve the design so it doesnt look outdated and out-detailed next to the StormRaven? |

Lextar, This is one thing i have wanted to do for ages! but i dont own any thunderhawks, but have looked into what i would do when i got my hands on one, To be honest would probably just buy a FW as i dont own one already, But as you own one and your building skills are pretty cool, I would...... 1) Cut the cockpit off and fill the centre section so the ships longer and wider as the scale is all out, especially compaired to your nice stormraven model. 2) The big gun needs moving and make it slighty smaller so it does not impose on the model. 3) Needs some jet engines like your stormraven. 4) The thing needs de cluttering i.e cut away any bits that gw just added leaving only the eagle and panel lines for a nice smooth apperance. Look forward to this one mate as depending how it turns out i may get myself one of the GW metal ones of fleabay ![]() Regards epic |

Isn't that a mk2 you're comparing it against? They're about 50% smaller than a mk3 and less detailed. If you want to build one though you can't go wrong looking at the FW versions. Perhaps taking the wing design from the stormraven and doubling it up in the same way the thunderhawk transporter has two sets of wings will give the continuity you're after? |

This is based on the mk2 in size, but a bit bulkier. So compared to the Stormraven, its the same width hull, but almost twice as long. Wing span is slightly bigger. I've still got the front wings to add and the silver circles are magnets where my wing weapons will be. This allows the wing weapon to turn. Also still considering whether to add the same Hurricane bolters on the front or build dual bolters instead. ![]() ![]() |

That's looking really good so far, only changes I'd make would be a cannon with less girth(oo-er!) and maybe mount the wings more towards the rear. |

The wings on the previous pictures weren't glued, just placed. Almost done, I just got the remaining front and wing guns and possible the landing legs to go, as well as a few other details. Here's a photo with my Stormraven. ![]() The upper wings actually pivot up and down and so does the cannon which I decided not to change. ![]() ![]() An underside view. The epic bases on the end of the wings house a magnet, so once I mount the weapons, these can be turned. ![]() |

Almost done. Just trying to decide whether to do the landing gears in an up or down position... or even use magnets so i can switch between them. Front twin linked bolters actually pivot up and down as well as to the side with no magnets this time. I just hope they still can after I painted them. ![]() and a shot from the back with the side wing weapons turned to attack enemy from behind. ![]() |

Finally finished. And I managed to paint this so that the front link twin bolters still move. ![]() More images on my website. |
