I was tempted to do some thread necromancy and bring a thread I started over a year and a bit ago back to life, asking for alternative ideas for making hunters out of whirlwinds but figured it'd be better to start fresh.. I had a quick mess about at the time with a whirlwind chassis, the box mag from a terminator storm bolter and a chunk of plasticard tube but too lazy to ever get around to making them and instead perpetually using unmodified whirlwinds as 'counts as'... with FSA round the corner and with the subject of proxies cropping up in the EA sub-forum, I figured it was about time I tackled the hunter shaped hole in my army and gave them a suitable proxy..

ended up with... *drum roll*... two of these!

Image

Just chopped a set of the whirlwind missiles from their stalks, making sure to cut at a slight angle and/or angle what was left of the stump.. then the circular lump beneath them is simply what was left of an old mk6 space marine after I'd removed said space marine :D (i.e. just a standard base)

I like them. I might use your idea.

I have some similar conversions in my unfinished EA Iron Warriors army. If I use rulebook SM army list then I am tempted to use them as either Hunters or Razorbacks. (Unsure what to do with them if I use the BL armylist).

Cheers

James

Not poking fun, but that's the cleanest white primer I've ever seen. What brand is it?

Not sure if there's an equivalent in the states if I'm honest, it comes from a place called Halfords and it's their own brand, Halfords being a... not really sure what to call it? It's basically a big generic car parts store, if you need a spare bulb / windscreen wiper / etc. for your car then the first place you'd likely go is Halfords, they do a host of other crap as well, bike stuff, camping stuff, but their primary calling is cars. It's just their matt white primer.

Their matt black is just as smooth :)

Sounds a lot like Canadian Tire. Whose spraypaint range I will now investigate.

Yes I'd say that's the best fit....though Halfords are a lot smaller in floor area lol.
