Yeah that looks like it'd to the part aesthetically, but my guess would be that it's to big.

I think I'll look into it. I don't know any Tau players, but I'm a regular customer at hoard o' bits on ebay
(that shop was my saving grace when i started my 28mm chaos dwarf army and I can really recommend them btw!)

The tip of the plasma gun will be almost as wide as the chassis: 6-7mm. The pulse rifle idea might work; they're probably only 2-3mm across.

Yeah I had a look at GW's site. I belive even the firewariors rifles may be to big, but I think the rifles on the drones in the fw pic
might be the right size or perhaps their antennas. I had a look at hoard o bits ebay shop and there were very few tau items almost looked
like their dropping them and I only found legs for the FW. I'll have to look again in a few days or try some other bits store.

I was a happy camper yesterday, because I could collect the package with my tau infantry yesterday. The quality is very good and I'm really satisfied with them. I had a little time today to start working on them. They are a pain to base though because the place where the pouring channel meets the round base is rather wide so my thumbs are sour from cutting and filing to get flat bottoms.

Anyways I wanted to show some WIP pictures of the first two units.



I have a, I think, rather nerdy question; As you can see I've put a drone on one unit. It's now flying at approximately twice the hight of a Fire Warrior. Does that hight seem right to you? Or should drones fly lower, like at the same level as a FW. I mean like in the fluff/pictures of Tau infantry (this is my first dwelling into Tau so I don't know that much about the fluff). Like I said a really nerdy question but if I base them "wrong" it's going to annoy me greatly later on.

I would think they pop up and down to get better shots. I say adjust their height to what you want for modeling aesthetic and the feel they are taking pot shots at the enemy.

Game time tomorrow. I might use my Tau depending on who I play. It will be a 2000p affair if it's the Tau. I have therefore been working on some Tau FW for the mech formation because it would be nice ato have at least one painted formation. I have finished the two FW units, but I have a hard time deciding on how to paint their weapons. Below are the two different versions I've come up with.




As you can see one version has it's rifles painted metallic blue and the other follows GW's 40k warriors traditional theme with the front half of the gun in the chosen cammoflage color and the back in a darker tone (in my case the metallic blue).

Which version do you like the best?
I lean towards the bonewhite front half because I think the individual miniatures look better, but at the same time I think the all blue guns are more visually interesting as a unit/seen from a distance (which I guess is how most people look at 6mm miniatues). It's hard life being a miniature painter, all these decisions

I agree with the others, the left one looks more interesting. Another approach for the right one would be to switch the weapon colour from your yellow armour to a bluish grey weapon casing. It could create a similar effect as on the left stand, except you would not have to put up with metal-coloured rifles.

Thanks for all the comments. We seem to agree on the blue rifles so I think I'll go with them.

Your idea has merit though Parintachin, I'm planning on two formations of FW so I might do that.
