Hi all,
so it's that time again - I've just abandoned my latest project, and am looking for an answer - and I might have found just the right solution for a non-sticker like myself. But first, a bit of history.
In the beginning, I just painted any Epic model I felt like - no tourneys or even games hereabouts, so no need for an army.
Then cam Epicomms (or rather, I arrived here). following the Landa (green is good...), I started my Eldar diary. it went well, until I realised the Landa was beckoning. I couldn't stick to just painting Eldar! So the diary folded.
I turned to the Orks, and rumours of an all-Gargant army prompted a great gargant hunt in my ork storage depot, unearthing 6 of the beasties (no.7, the Mekboy G, has been de/promoted to SupaStompa). Huzzah and all that... until the release date for the Gargants slipped to 2007.
I diligently completed the Gargant I was working on (barring the base; pics will follow). I'd polled the audience on colours for Deffsta, so he'll be painted too. But otherwise - time for a new army. A third army.
IG?
Space Marines?
Siege troops?
Anyone of these would be doomed to halt after a few models. I checked out my complete Imperial models, and discovered a total of 2 Rhinos and a handful of Titans (no, they're too badly painted to show - repaint is scheduled). If you add the Squats to the pile, there's a single Land Train with a solitary wagon. Ho-humm, not much to build on.
Then came Warmaster Nice, and lo and behold, he delighted viewers with his pic of an Ordinatus conversion, a splendid job that. I AM an enginseer, after all, so why not Ad Mech army? Well:
1 - no rules yet
2 - one Ordinauts, several Titans, nil Scutarii (troops)
3 - I'd still end up stopping after a handful of models.

Then came Athmos' offer of to buy IG stuff - yum! - and Jimbo's pics of Land Raiders with Deathstrike heads on them.... a whirlwind of likes and dislikes. The brainwave condensed from this lot, and here it is - my Third army (and that's what it will be called -

:blues:
An IMPERIAL army :p

This means I can always switch armies when I'm fed up, and still remain 'on-topic'! (and my promise to paint Deffsta means I can honourably do something different quite honourably too).

So - what will be in the third army?
1 - Centurio (unnamed) Scutarii Legion, based on IG vehicles and troops, with a minor difference - these will be the Squatarii I'd mentioned elsewhere - Squat troops, bikes, batteries too - except for the exoarmour types, who will become Space Marine support terminators.
2 - Ares Guard space marines - I'd given their history ages ago, one of my first posts. Their time is coming at last.
3 - Legio Fornax, mt new Titan Legio, in support of the IG/SM components.
4 - Centurio Purgatio - Ordinatus army, comprising heavy warmachines - I'll currently use these as superheavy IG tanks, until the rules come out. First pair - Ordinatus Cyclops 1 and Ordinatus Cyclops 2 - no prizes for guessing what these models will look like!
This lot will be led by Knight-Centurion Excelsior... remember the airfields of the Imperium thread? (hint, hint)
5 - House Reynald, Knight squadrons in support - no rules yet - will see; netepic?
6 - Imperial Navy Support Squadron 92 of the 284th Air Armada - Thunderbolts.
7 - Inquisitor (unnamed), type to be determined - units will include Inquisitor, transport Landraider, stormtroopers on Chimeras or Rhinos - a weird lot these, just in for the fun of it. Supporting them, an anachronism, a largish vehicle - my CENSORED BY ORDER OF INQ. :blues:

Where to begin? well, I've got one tank ready - a Leman Russ equivalent - this was the paint test model, and a lucky one too - it made it with flying colours (sorry!) - first scheme accepted! I'm now testing the scheme on a weird Manticore, and on Ordinatus Cyclops 1. But I'm a bit excited about Excelsior, and may jump the gun with him. Re colours again - barring the odd vehicle, all models will include a common theme, and the toned-down military colours camouflage camp have more or less won the day; although there WILL be exceptions, a common theme will link the lot.

Whew - that's it. Now fingers crossed and hope it works.

Ooooh- the start of a new army!!

Wonderful moment- the feverish working out of different army lists, working out how much of a mortgage extension you can get and how much that will get if spent at Forgeworld, the belated realisation that you don't need 20,000 points to start playing, the even more feverish re-drfating of army lists to fit more realistic budget....

Ah good times!!

Good luck vanvlak. At least when you get bored assembling/painting the IG then you can turn to SM, and then the Knight Squadrons beckon.

Keep us posted.

Cheers

Thanks all,
one component of the third army I never mentioned was a digital camera - ometime next week, I hope. No mortgage,
W-I - I've got all the models I need, except for the stuff Athmos has bought for me. Sonetines being oldish does have its advantages! And that's exactly the idea behind the multiple-components of the 3rd A.  }:)
Chris, if it's any consolation, the 3rd-A does have around 20,000 points (or more), so I too wasn't in the know.  :L
Things I'm lloking forward to: a deconverted Imperator (back from chaos!); the Ordinati; and my first tank division.

I would love to do Imperials, purely for the Vultures and Valkyries alone.

You sound very similar to me Vanvlak.  Find it hard to stick to a single topic.  After reading the tiny battle report of Eldar V Marines in fanatic#1, I now want to dig my Eldar out!  :L

What? Only those? My multi-topic madness extends to rules also. Without looking at the shalf I can remember owning:
-Space Marine (1st & 2nd edition)
-Epic 40k
-Epic Armageddon
-Battleground: WWII
-Flames of War
-Spearhead
-Modern Spearhead
-Tank Charts
-I Ain't Been Shot, Mum!
-Gear Krieg
-Warzone 1st & 2nd edition (Ultimate edition has been preordered...)
-Chronopia (2nd edition)
-Wh40k (Rogue Trader + 3rd edition)
-Warhammer (6th edition)
-BFG
-CAV
-Stargrunt II
-Dirtside II
-Full Thrust
-Panzerfauste
-Flintloque
-Slaughterloo
-Warmaster
-Necromunda
-VOR

...and that's probably not all. Plus I have not Included the multitude of free games I have found in the net. :oo Even though I will never play them all I love to read warrgame rules and see what they have eaten. Then I can steal the best bitz for my own creations...  }:)

I'll admit I omitted Necromunda, Mordheim, Man  o' war, Inquisitor, Sapce Hulk, Talisman and LOTR - but the list still doesn't compare to yours, Mojarn. Mine seems like a Games Workshop PR exercise... :oo

I guess my 10th Epic Army will be:

10. the Necrons (when they are released),

Since I already started my:

9. Tau & Kroot with F/W models. ?

Let's see ... I have:

8. IG,
7. SMs,
6. Orks,
5. Eldar,
4. Chaos (incl. Cultists [with OGRES !]),
3. 'Nids,
2. SQUATS (!),
1. Traitor SMs,

9. Tau & Kroot... oh...

I guess I could include a:

11. mixed Titan Legion! ?

But I include those with my Imperial Forces like I do aircraft. To provide fire support to the ground forces. :;):

Hi all, work now in progress - finally!

So far I've unearthed my old painted models:
2 Rhinos, 1 Razorback, 1 stand of Terminators, 1 Hellbore, 1 Mole, 1 Termite, 1 Land Train with 1 Battlecar, 1 stand of Terminators, 1 Robot, 3 Knights, and 1/2 dozen assorted Titans. These come in around 9 different colour schemes which I somehow have to unify...! :(

New stuff: I've completed my first tank, a Ferdelance - ok, fancy name for something equivalent to Leman Russ Destroyer (see the IG equivalent vehicles list - I'm basing a lot on this!).

I'm working on a small conversion which will count as a Salamander Command vehicle - just two pieces make this one up, wish I had more of these components...oh, I should've said - pics to follow asap.

Then there's six ( :L ) Ordinati. For the time being I'll use these as SH tanks. I havn't struck lucky on ebay or something - I'm busy converting, inspired by Warmaster Nice's great Ordinatus conversion (where's that pic, WM-Nice?). These are:
Ordinatus Cyclops 1 and 2 (no prizes, as I'd said before) - 1 painting, 2 under construction
Ordinatus Cheminferrus - painting
Ordinatus Mars V2 - design stage
Ordinatus X Piscina - under construction
Ordinatus X Rynnimundi - design stage

The 'X' stands for 'xeno'.

If I'm not fed up with Ad. Mech types after this lot, I'll work on my Knight Excelsior. If I am, then it'll be the turn of the Inquisition. They're getting an Inquisitor (daemonhunter or witch hunter? Xeno?), and he's getting stormtroopers, a few SH tanks (!!) (real ones this time) and (heh-heh) a deluxe transport. There should be enough space for a nice big jail, torture room, command, control, comms and intelligence centres (C3I) and stables and garage for the Mercedes ( :l ) on board a CI..... time to design a large inquisition emblem, I think!

Hi all, more from Inquisitor Magog's investigation - here's my second Ordinatus, undercoated and waiting to be painted - no fancy tricks this time!

And I still can't post images - shame!

EDIT - should work now...

2nd attempt to link
