Hi all,

after cleaning up, undercoating and basecoating 3000 points worth of Imperial Fists (as well as 3000 points of orks, but they can wait for the moment), I finally began inking them today. I quickly finished off a whirlwind and a stand of tactical marines just to have something finished and took a quick snap of them with my poor digital camera. I am planning on writing a simple diary of their development on my website (probably once a week as I don't get that much painting time at the moment), but will post updates on here too if anyone's interested. I'm not a stunning painter, but I'm slowly improving with more practice.

Anyways, here's the start of the army...

Whirlwind and Tact. unit

Chapter markings, etc. are to come after whole formations are finished (though i'll add another highlight to the tacticals and paint the guns soon too.)

Hi,

Had plans to go out tonight, but all got cancelled due to lazy mates, so had a chance to do a little more painting. Finished off first tactical squad (painted bolters red and added metallics on barrel and clip), and also managed to get an assault squad done.

Sorry about the poor pictures, my digital camera's macro mode really isn't great.

Tactical and Assault Squads

Closer view of tactical squad

Also got my second Tactical squad, another Assault squad and two Devastator squads up to a stage where they just need basing and detailing too, so I might be able to finish them over the weekend.

I know I said I had no intention of speed painting this army, but with two rugby matches and one footie match on tv this afternoon, I've had the chance to production-line paint all of my remaining infantry whilst watching them.

A second tactical squad, a second assault squad and two devastator squads are now finished, so it's onto the vehicles next. Probably finish the whirlwind squadron first, then I have Land Raider squad, Predators and 10 Rhinos to paint (and two titans!) I think I'll try to paint all of those before I advance order any of the second batch of releases. Anyway, here are today's efforts (once again please forgive picture quality)...

Tactical squads

Assault squads

Devastator squads

And all lined up together...

Imperial Fists

I'm glad all of the infantry are out of the way as I was never looking forward to painting them all, but at least it was quick and painless. I have some infantry bases left over, but these will become character units at a later date when I've had more of a think about how I'm likely to use them.

Looking good! You seem to have two tactical companies finished already.

Ok, another update, but no pictures this time. I was planning on finishing my whirlwind platoon before heading onto the other vehicles, but I've found that the "conveyor belt" process of painting works better for me when painting Epic. Therefore I've finished basecoating and ink washing all of the remaining vehicles in a row first, so that they'll hopefully all be finished at roughly the same time. Should have some pics up by the weekend.

I've also ordered the next batch of models from GWMO, so when this lot are done, I'll move straight onto the next (Dreads and Terms! yay!).

15/03/04

After ink washing and cleaning up all of my vehicles, I've finally begun the end run of my first batch of this army. Today I finished up the Whirlwind Squadron and started on the first of ten rhinos I have for the tactical and devastator squads.

Whirlwind Squadron

I've also decided on some of the markings I'm going to use for my infantry units. I'm not confident enough with my painting skills to add black trim to the shoulder pads (took me far too long to get the yellow right, I don't want to risk it by messing about with black paint now! ?:o ), but will at some stage get a micropen to add a fist emblem to all of them. In the meantime, I am going to simply mark the front and back edge of every base with a roman numeral in white paint to signify their formations. Simple but effective. The Rhinos are the only vehicles that are going to need some markings to identify their formations, but I'll wait until they're all finished before I decide what they will be.

Well I knew it was coming, but I didn't think it would be so soon. It seems the "Curse of the Epic diary" has hit me too. (Seems all the diaries are halted for a few weeks for various reasons...Hmm, spooky) My computer decided that one morning it just wasn't going to work, and after attempting numerous fixes myself, I had to send it to be repaired by someone else, so that left me without a computer for almost two weeks! On the other hand I did manage to get quite a lot of painting done and even managed a few games against a friend who has caught the Epic bug.

The Imperial Fist force is nearly finished up to my original plan (gives me 2700 points), with just the Warhound, 3 Predators and all the battle markings to go. After getting a bit sick of painting yellow a week ago, I decided it was time to start painting some of my Orks up too, so did a couple of test pieces and found the scheme I wanted to use. I then painted a big warband and 8 FW Battlewagons in a reasonably short amount of time and have also now begun a big Gunzmob using some of my SM2 era bitz. (3 Pulsa Rokkits, 4 Hop-Splat Gunz and 3 looted Thudd Gunz!)

I will try to get pictures up either tonight or tomorrow once I get my computer sorted out properly.

Ok, no new pics of my Imperial Fists yet (I want to finish the last few models and base those that I havn't yet done first), but I have a few pics of my Orks for your viewing pleasure.

Decided on dark red and metal colour scheme which I think is nice as it keeps the "red onez go faster" motif, but avoid the bright red early 90's style of Orks. So here they are....

The first few stands of an initial Big Warband (the other stands simply need to be based to complete the unit). The stand in front is a proxy Warlord stand in case I need to use it at a later date. Motifs will be painted onto the banner too.

Big Ork Warband

Next, the Big Mekboyz Gunzmob made from a collection of my old models. 4 Hop Splat Gunz, 3 Looted Thudd Gunz and 3 Pulsa Rokkits.

Gunzmob (front)
Gunzmob (back)
Gunzmob (detail)

Finally, I made this flakwagon out of the left overs from a batch of FW stuff I ordered, but probably won't use it for this army. It kinda matches Blood Axes rather than any other Ork clan, so it may make a comeback when the Blood Axe Kommando armylist rears it's orky head.

Flakwagon Idea

As there seem to be a number of problems and delays with GW MO regarding the next batch of Epic releases, I'm going to finish up both my SM and Ork forces before I order more.
