I've decided to paint my Ork army, for me this is a big thing. I've been playing with GW stuff on and off for over 10 years, and I've only painted about 5 models. If I can make myself paint the whole lot I'll be well pleased, even if I don't manage to get the finish quite right (though I'll certainly try!).

First I'll paint the infantry, I've spray painted 30 stands black for the undercoat and I'm waiting for that to dry. Talking of which, how long do people leave an undercoat to dry for? It doesn't say on the tin (I'm using Humbrol since the GW were out of theirs), I'm going to try on an expendable stand after leaving it overnight, but it would be nice to know for sure.

Here are a few pics of some vehicles I'm making into gunwagons and soopagunwagons :). They need putty and maybe some redoing, but when I whipped some of the nail and a bit of skin off my thumb doing the last one I thought I'd call it a day until I've healed a little :p

Some creative conversions.

Overnight should be more than enough for a primer coat.  Shorter times are going to depend on the primer and weather.  I've painted stuff within 15 minutes or so of priming during the dog days of summer.  OTOH, during a rainy winter day it may be tacky after an hour.

John,

I like your work, especially the pieces with plastic conversions.

Have you seen my Stompas?

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

I haven't seen your stompas, where can I find them? I'd like to have a look.

After searching the net for some painting tips I've finished two test figures (well nearly, I don't have the black paint to touch up the mistakes yet).

The first one I painted the boots, armour flaps and gun (except the mag and blade) Blood Red, the rest of the clothes Bestial Brown and the green bits Snot Green. It took ages and I wasn't very happy with the result.

The next one I left the black undercoat on the armour flaps, boots and gun, painted the other bits Bestial Brown and Snot Green with the round bit at the back Blood Red. It was really quick and looks good, the trouble is, is it Orky enough?

As a side note I'm really happy with the faces, I dry brushed them with a fairly large brush which left the black undercoat in their eyes and mouth. It was fast and easy, my kinda painting :).

second Ork (not a very good pic, but I couldn't get a better quality one no matter how many I took)

I've made my mind up, I'm going to go with the colours of the second Ork but add red shoulder pads. Now to get started on the 30 stands...

Marines don't have fallic angst because they don't need a fallos for anything.  }:)  Then again, neither do Orks according to the current fluff, although some mushrooms do bear more than passing resemblance to such a thing. :p

Here we go again...

I love those Gargants kr00za! I'd have to have a big mind shift to plan anything on that scale, I'm too impatient with modelling and painting at the moment. (which is partly why I'm posting here, it's giving me a shove to finish.)

I did do a little conversion on a Gargant to make it into a Great Gargant for a game against my brother. Not a lot, but it did the job :).

Thats a nice lil conversion.
Sometimes the simplest are the most effective :;):
Personly I hate the look of the new Ork Gargant. Thats why you wont find one in my Ork army.
It did have its good points... the head arms and feet where much better than the origanal Slasher Gargant. But the overall shape and the high placement of the BellyGun ruined it.
Thats why I took the best bits from both models and combined them. :)

Those Squiggoths are great kr00za- the jaws are a cool addition- love the battlewagons too!

I agree. I think the best looking is the second (I think) great gargant model, but the one I'm most fond of is the resin one, probably because I've had one for so long :)
