I just did a banelord conversion. ?I scratch built a chainfist for it. It was inspired by the one tuffy did for his warlord. ?Here are a few pics of it. ?I'm very pleased with the way it turned out.

I made the the forearm and upperarm using plastruc strips. ?I made resin copies of a shin plate for the chain guard and the upper arm plate. The chainsaw itself is .02 evergreen sheet. ?I stretched sprue to make the wiring and then dressed it up with bits from my spare parts box.

This is the powerfist. ?I used putty and plastruc to change the proportions of the arm so it looked better on this model. I also added a bit of resin plate.

I'm viewing them fine 'Seer....  :l

Nice work Meng - glad I gave you an idea - you put a lot more work into it than I & have pulled off a far better mini as a result - Great work!

I like tha chain addition as well - I hadnt noticed that in the competition entry photo.

One question - why the preference to stretch sprue rather than use plastic rod or wire?

All I am getting is red crosses. Strange, I had a good look at them earlier as well!

They are rather excelent conversions though. How exactly do you make a resin copy and what do you need?

Cheers

Chris

I think it's the server stormseer.
One question - why the preference to stretch sprue rather than use plastic rod or wire?

Sprue stretching is a technique I picked up doing scale models. ?I can stretch a sprue to the thickness of a hair, so I can get sizes you can't get in rod stock. ?It's plastic so I have a variety of choices of glues I can use, unlike wire. ?I also tend to hold on to all the sprues from my model kits so it's cheaper for me to dig into my sprue box than it is for me to go out and by rod stock.
It's a really good technique to pick up.

As to the casting, I used dental alginate to make a mold of the shin plate and acryllic resin for the casting.  I attached a small piece of sprue to the backside of the plate. This allowed the edge of the wrap around portion of the shin plate to rest flush on the bottom of my mold box.  I poured a small portion of Alginate in, just enough to come up flush to the top edge of the shin plate.  I let this set up. Then I sprayed a little PAM cooking oil on it to act as a release and poured the second half of the mold.  When this set I had a small two piece mold of the shin plate.  I poured about 6 plates and made the arm.

I shall have to try and do so then!

I've never had any luck getting a length of sprue to anything that resembles an even size though, even just for a few mm. More practice I guess!!

You realise if you keep giving me tips, I wont need you to make any more vehicles for me....  :p

Hehehe, I actually think you don't need me anyway, so I'll give you a tip on stretching.
Rotate the sprue over the flame until it bulges slightly, this is a sign that the spue is the right temp.  If it is too hot or too cool it will break.

Tip noted - many thanks Meng!

P.S. - Your 'Raider is 1/2 done and I'm itching to start on either the massive Rhino or the comms one as my next piece for the force - thanks again for those!

Nope...I'm not getting the pics either  :(

Sounds intriguing though.  So if you have generated molds you could potentially make more for interested people then ? ???

Potentially, probably so & I know many would be interested.  Except by doing so publicly he'd be publicly breaching GW Copyright & IP, so it would never be discussed on this board, would it  :blues:

SO how do you make a resin copy? What do you need and how long does it take? Just out of curiosity...

Cheers
