So here are the 3 space marines and green stuff base I am going to use to try out 3 colour schemes both for the grass bases and the firehawks armour.

I am going to use the Badab War Forge World book colour scheme and also the original rogue trader to come up with a good scheme.

Its really either red with yellow flames or vice versa.

Are you sure you want to paint flames on every marine? ;) Best paint them before basing if you're going square bases?

Yes flames on every marine!

I want to have green stuff scenic bases. The green stuff will cover the small round plastic the marines are on in the actual tactical squads. I'll post pics once I have done them. I cant paint first and then base as I will end up having to retouch the painted mini's when I paint the bases!

Looking forward to undercoating shortly then can get cracking on the scheme. Better photos next time too.

Good work on the basing, I did a few of my landraiders like that with the green stuff as i had glued two 40k bases together and put green stuff on top, You can get some good effects but it takes bloody ages to base everything and costs a fortune in greenstuff if you buy the GW stuff.

Looking forward to seeing the flamework paintwork on these minis, Can you take larger pictures aswell as the photos in your blog are pretty small and it will be hard to see the detail.

Good luck, regards epic

Thanks!

Yeah I love doing the bases with green stuff. For 28mm I have also used tubing, plastic card, cogs etc etc. Gives a real unique feel to minis.

I buy the stuff on ebay 36 inches is VERY cheap compared to GW stuff which is just a rip off as its exactly the same made by Kneadtite.

Grass always looks greener.....

So there is 3 types of grass I am considering for these marines. Three green with yellow highlights and two types of ink. I think the Vallejo ink is better than the thrakka.

So this is the thrakka ink:

This is the vallejo green ink:

Please tell me which grasses you prefer. I am probably going to go red marine with yellow flames.

I think perhaps a more muted tone or color instead of the very vibrant green may be a good idea. That way your painted miniature stands out more.

Right. I agree with both. Vallejo ink and I am going for the goblin green, which was the one on the right. I'm not going for sandy as I would like a jungle board eventually to go with my marine armies.

I think red with yellow flames will be best but I will trial a yellow with red flames just encase.

:)
