Hello All, I recently came across a Capitol Imperialis and a Reaver Titan, both caked with many layers of paint. Can anyone tell me a reliable method of stripping it off? Obviously without damaging the model (the father-in-laws suggestion of steel wool was NOT appreciated!) |

Metal is pretty easy to strip, soak it in regular nail polish remover overnight, and use an old tooth brush to scrub it off. Repeat as needed, and dip the brush in the nail polish remover as you scrub. Try to take the plastic tracks off the CI after an hour or so of soaking if you can't remove them before. You can safely remove paint off plastic using the same method but use a product called "Simple Green". It's a heavy duty household liquid cleaner ... I've successfully removed paint using both these methods ... |

Brake fluid, I've heard, will work on plastic minis. I work in a company that produces many chemicals, so I am lucky that I have things ideal for this. I stripped some paint on a door at home once. I used a product my girlfriend bought in a metal jar. It smelled like it had a solvent in it called methchloride (an old version of its name). This was a gel type material that you brushed onto the painted wood. The paint would then bubble and fall away. This should also work on your metal minis. Brush them with the goo, and leave them in a sealed container. after a day, the old paint should brush off very easily. I'm lucky as I can get that solvent pure. I'm not sure what make the tub was (my girlfriend bought it), but I'd imagine all DIY stores will have some version of it. |

I have just had some success with stripping many layers of some old Baneblades with oven Cleaner. After the first go, which was not successful, I realisedthat I was dealing with several nasty layers of enamel paints. More effort was required for victory... Taking my trusty scalpel in hand, I carefully scrapped through the paint to bare metal in a very small section on all the major sides. This then allowed the chemicals of the second oven cleaner application to get underneath the enamel layers and seperate it from the metal far better. At the second scrub the paint came off very easily and quickly with just a toothbrush assisting. Now if only the enamel would come off my rows of Codex Grey Guardsmen as easily... |

Just re doing some old Reavers myself. For stripping from metal any decent paint stripper should do the Job. I use Nitromors in the yellow tin. For stripping fom plastic i use Meths and a tooth brush. It takes abit of elbow grease but doesn't damage the plastic at all. Hope this is of help to you. |

When I want to strip the paint off an old metal model I find that boiling it in water for an hour or so and then leaving it in a jar of nail polish remover for a week works best. The boiling treatment expands the metal and the heat also loosens the paint from the inside. Doing it this way saves a lot of hard busting work as you should find that the paint falls off the model with hardly any effort. Its also good for loosening the paint in them tricky little places found on chain-mail jackets n the such
