By finely slicing plasticard with a stanley knife. Also, ask Curis, his rivets rock. |

Some people get thin sheets of plasticard/styrene, then use a pounce wheel to make the indentations. This is only useful if you're adding strips to the outside. A time consuming alternative is to buy these tiny rivets http://www.grandtline.com/model_railroa ... _pages.htm and drill them into the surface. Pretty cool, though. |

Pressing the rivets into either plasticard or metal foil works well. Alternatively pva or indeed paint works well. Metal paints are good because theytend to get rather thick quickly due to the high concentration of tiny metal flakes in the paint, and thus hold the shape quite nicely once dried. I'd recommend a couple of layers using this method though. |

I use the Grandt Line (which are amazing), the styrene rod, and the water filter techniue from IA: Masterclass. Each has their own advantages: Grandt line are detailed and relatively easy, but expensive. The ceramic beads from the water filter are, of course, only one shape but do come in several sizes, and are dirt cheap in the long run. $15 and I'll never run out. Plasticard allows the most variety, due to the ability to stack different sizes and shapes, but are the most time consuming as well. |
