Work has begun! ![]() I'm still undecided about an overall chaos force, but the Imperator is definitely on the way. Dec. 16 - I filed the bastions to remove some of the English Gothic detailing so that it will fit with the more Egyptian theme I have going. They were then glued together. I cut the arcane headstones (little obelisks) off their bases in order to use them on the carapace/platform. I also filed and glued together the elvish waystone (big ol' obelisk) to use as the carapce centerpiece. Finally, the major instigation to all this was that I wandered into the local game shop to find out that all Ral Partha figs were 50% off. I found a 25mm tomb king fig that had some nifty components - a set of Coptic (?) jars (the alabastar ones they put mummy organs in), and a sarcophagus - so I bought it. Dec 17 - I glued the rear tower together, filed it and put it on the rear of the platform. I left the detail, as I think I can paint it to look less gothic and more Egyptian. I then glued the small obelisks on the rear corners. I removed the jars from their sprues and filed the bases down. It turned out the sarcophagus lid was exactly the right size for the feet to touch the base of the waystone and the head be just below the top of the obelisk. ![]() I cut pieces of sprue to mount on the front corners of the platform. They are positioned as 3 bar ingots in order to raise the Warmastor Tomb King thrones above the battlements at the front corners. Once they were beveled and shaved accordingly, I glued them on. The last thing I did was to check the overall look of the platform by placing all the bits on it and comparing it to my other Imperator. The Waystone is near the front, flanked by the tomb kings on each front corner. The jars will be on the sides, facing out, flanking the side-mounted cannons. The headstones flank the rear tower on the rear corner. I'll try to get hold of a digital camera and post some pics, as I don't think my description is as clear as it could be. Next up: Gluing the platform. ================= I have two issues that I would like input on. The head. I have 3 options currently: 1) Order a Tzeentch titan head. I checked the size and it should look okay. My concern is that it might look insufficiently Egyptian. 2) Use a Warmaster Sphinx head. Again, I checked and I can make it work. Very Egyptian, but it would be the only truly organic-looking bit on the model and I wonder about the overall look. 3) Order a Warmonger head and/or head guns. I believe I could paint them in a scheme that would match, but I couldn't find a clear picture on the GW site, so I'm not certain. The Hellstorm Cannon I'm missing a bit. ![]() The barrel tip piece is gone, so I was considering alternatives. 1) Putty it up. Cheap, but not so simple. I'm not sure my scultping skills are up to the task. 2) Replace the weapon. Using a Warmonger Vengeance Cannon is a possibility. Any other sufficiently large suggestions are welcome. 3) Order a complete Warmonger and just take the unneeded bit off the sprue. I just don't want to pay $35 for a model that I will admittedly probably never use at the moment, especially at Christmas. So, I'll continue to forge ahead on other parts while you guys give me feedback. |

Wow this sounds really amazing Neal! For the head why not use Stormlords Tzeentch warlord for inspiration? I think his idea with the Lord Of Change-head looks absolutely great! For the Hellstorm Cannon I'd go for a resculpt. Perhaps each barrel ending in a head with a gaping mouth? Just add a ball of green stuff for each head; sculpting a gaping mouth and a couple of eyes shouldn't pose too much of a problem. Looking forward to the pics. Keep up the good work! ![]() Cheers! |

And if you want an Egyptian style head which looks a bit less organic, try the falcon head of the Ushabti from the WHFB Tomb Kings army. |

Great suggestion Vanvlak...youu could also try using the Warmonger head, and adding some headress sides from a Tomb Kings model, or parts from a standard top. ..These "casket vulture" bitz are quite good: http://store.us.games-workshop.com/storefr....g=18004. |

Thanks for the suggestions. Dec 18 - Only a brief bit to work last night. I glued all the items to the top of the platform, and they look good. After several test assemblies and comparisons to another Imperator, I decided to scale back the floating platform idea for mounting it. Rather than having the full-scale, discs of rock ripped from the ground complete with hanging hunks of rock and sand, I am reducing it to large stone discs inscribed with runes. These will then "float" on two flying bases without the supports. The washers (stone discs to be) completely obscure the flying stand bases, giving the look that the discs float just above the ground. In light of that, I mounted the feet to the washers. I am waiting to glue the bastions to the feet until I can texture the washers for a stone look. I glued the torso together, but I'm waiting to glue it to the platform until I have the weapon dilemma decided. I also glued the weapon pices I had together. Basically, it's in 8 parts now - 2 feet/bases, 2 legs, torso, platform, and 2 weapons - and 3 pieces need details - hellstorm cannon, head, and I plan to mount scarabs (khemri shoulder pads) at the corners of the platform where the gun towers are on the basic model. On the Hellstorm, I tried working with some bitz that I had. I mounted a scarab in the middle and surrounded it with plastic studs that are approximately the size of the gun barrels. I'm not sure about the look, though. I'll decide to night and determine whether or not to scrap it and buy a Vengeance Cannon to convert. On the head, I am leaning towards the Warmonger head, especially if I order the cannon. I have a 40K Ahriman head that I bought to use as a headdress anyway. A bit of saw and file and it should work great. By the end of the weekend, I should be simply waiting on bits if I decide to go that route. Next update will be Monday. Thanks again for the ideas. I'm really tempted to use the casket vultures in particular, although I don't really have a place for them right now... ![]() |

A very light weekend because of Christmas prep. Dec 21 - textured the bases for the feet and glued the legs on. I bitzed up the deathstorm, but I don't really like it. I'm pretty sure I'll just order the warmonger cannon and head. In light of that, there will now be an intermission while we wait for bitz. |

Hi! Neal, did you ever see the old CJ article regarding chaos titans? I remember one for Tzeentch there that was pretty interesting and may provide more inspiration. Alas, I dont have it, but maybe someone else does? Primarch |

I have one from Epic mag 2 about building Abominatus, but not one from CJ. If you want a look, just say, but I doubt it will be much help. Cheers Chris |

I think I've pretty much got the concept down now. It's just a matter of deciding on the last few bits. Thanks, though. |

Hi! Is GWUS selling old stock or do they actual make more as demand permits? If they do I wonder what it does to the old argument that they could re-release old sprues because the molds were worn out. It seems GWUS molds are quite alive and well..... Primarch |

I assuemd for a long time that it was done as-ordered. However, a variety of comments have begun to make me think it is a mix. My opinion (with somewhat shaky support) is now that much of the E40K range, especially the plastic, is on-hand stock, and that some of the E40K and definitely anything older is reproduced as-ordered. |
