Hi all, I was working on my promised 'flying Epic Stormboy' when I started wondering what sort of madness Epicists engage in. I came up with two ideas: 1 - drilling 6mm figure gun barrels 2 - space marine purity seals - on troops, not characters... So - does anyone do this sort of stuff? And can anyone beat these for epimania?

Well, for gun barrels I dont normally bother (in fact, I'm pretty bad at skipping it in larger scales too....), but when I have done so, its more a case of using a pin to "#####" out the barrel rather than any drilling. As for purity seals, they're easier than you'd think. Start by super glueing 1 or 2 small pieces of paper in place - if you find manipulating them dificult, use a pin or needle to hold them & put them in place. Also, I advise using a pin to apply the super glue to the required area or else the paper will stick doen its entire length. A small blob of GS where the top of the paper is with a hole dotted in the middle with a pin or other modelling tool & you're done. ?  "next"..... ?

I do stick some purity seal on my trooper to try and break uniformity... i usualy stick a tiny (i realy mean tiny) and realy flat rectangle of green stuff where i want the purity seal; i then form a small ball of GS (the smaller i can get, put it on the top of the seal, and press gently with a toothpick or something similar to make it form the seal itself. It work well... And the small ball of GS easily hide any messiness on the area you pressed to apply the tiny rectangle on the mini. Athmos |

Aaarggh! Purity seals! Now one of you will tell me you have an army of Black Templars, with each and every 6mm space marine bedecked in seals! As Tuffskull said... 'next'! PS - the censorship was great!

A while back someone was talking about their marine force in which they put tabards on each individual marine. I thought that was pretty nuts. |

Drilling _lasgun_ barrels?  I may be crazy but not THAT crazy.  Pics, please? Getting good enough digicam is mandatory. If you do not get one you may be used as a fanboy referee. Purity Seals and Tabards ... Madness !!! And just put a dot of black paint at the end of each barrel in the appropriate size whether it's a titan or heavy weapon, etc. Always a pet annoyance with me, when I don't see the end of the muzzle painted !

I've even put a muzzle brake on the ends of larger barrels too. Or on some of the bigger weapons drilled them out. If your barrel end is unpainted you blow up after your first shot !

I have to admiit I'm pretty much table-top quality on most of my figs, with an occasional nifty piece. I think about the biggest full-formation conversion I've done is either sculpting flying discs for a formation of Tzeentchian Raptors, or a set of 5 (E40K formation size) ork looted LR battlefortresses. Each was about equally fiddly. |

I drilled out the gun barrels on my ork war engines... but that was about it. The time that would have been spent doing smaller scale stuff, just didn't seem worth it for the results. |

Hi! I share Neal's view. I think for pieces that see active tabletop use a "museum" quality paint job is a little too much. Played minis get touched, bent, scratched, dropped and all sorts of not too nice things to the paint job. Its easy to touch up a average paint job to make it look the same. Primarch |

I am the nuts planning on a whole army of marines with tabards  But i am not a quick painter, and have only about 4-6 hours a week to spent in it, so the work is going slowly. I'll try to find a digicam to post some pics when i got something worth showing (Well, all that's finished is a Warhound for now). It's not that hard to do actually (but i don't sculpt fold and recesses on the tabards on troopers, thoses are simple tabards). And for purity seals, i generally add theses on the finished minis, here and there. What annoy me in epic army is the uniformity; i use such small converting to give more personality to my troops. I also plan on mixing MK6 and MK7 armour in future units (those allready assembled are MK7 only), convert various heavy weapons, different sergents, etc. My original impulse was the seeing of Bobby wong army, which was the website that re-hooked me into Epic; I must confess i never thought before about making epic infantry conversions, and taking much time to paint those... this was a revelation. I rarely have an oponent to play with those time, so i don't have problem with the "museum pieces in gamers hands" issue... and i'm not anywhere near museum standard (if this mean something near what bobby wong did) for now. I just try to do my best with my minis... which is spending lot of time on it Athmos |

Hi! Even a "simple" conversion like that is bound to take a serious amount of time, taking account the amount of time you'll have it may take quite a while. You should probably do them in stages, either convert all the tabards on all the models you'd like to do, or do a small amount first and then paintthem before making another batch.
