Hi all, just a quick one.. does anyone have any pics / guides / ideas on how to go about converting the OOP E40k plastic whirlwinds into convincing looking hunters? I've got more than a handful of the little blighters spare now and thought it'd be nice to keep the aesthetics of the army intact given that I'm using mostly OOP rhinos / land raiders in the army (plus I'm a stingy git and don't want to pay through the nose for them but don't tell uncle G.W. that) Any help much appreciated ![]() |

Best I've seen is just to cut off one of the missile pods. Wanna say it was an L4 job. |

I was considerign using the E/W Guild AA turret its not 100% fluff accurate but it looks more AA than the "true" hunter, IMO. |

I'd concur on cutting off one of the missile pods. Replace with some kind of rod or something, perhaps? |

I think I might take the 'chop one missile pod' off route for the sake of ease but I had a moment of inspiration after posting the thread - those box mags on the 40k terminator's storm bolters are perfectly sized.. throw in a bit of plasticard tubing and et voila.. only quibble I'd have is getting it raised at a slight angle but I think a wedge of plasticard would do the trick. Going to have a fiddle and a play around whenever I get a chance and see what I can come up with ![]() Thanks for the ideas though, I'll keep this thread open for now and hopefully post pics of whatever I can come up with ![]() |

Sorry for the double post, didn't think I'd have time to whip this together tonight given that it's fast approaching 1am Hastily blu-tac'd to a whirlwind that's on my desk for painting, I'm thinking trim both missile pods off of the turret, turn the turrent 180 degrees around and attach this little contraption to the more shallow angle: ![]() might embellish it a bit to suggest some kind of intricate laser tracking system? maybe a smaller tube on top of the actual 'barrel' - either way I don't want to make it too complicated, I want to be able to easily replicate the damn thing ![]() |

Why use the turret at all? Just use a wedge of plasticard, and retain yourself a Whirlwind. |

true enough but a wedge of plasticard means I'll have to model on a little plug to fit in the hole too, plus I tend to do things with a certain degree of permanence so wouldn't see myself wanting to switch them out for whirlwinds later on (and indeed if I wanted more whirlwinds, I'd most likely go trawl ebay for some more ![]() 'tis a good point tho and something worth bearing in mind! |

I just went for differentiation so I chopped the two missile pods off and mounted one to the back so it looks like a modern whirlwind. So old plastic E40k whirlwind as whirlwind and something vaguely resembling the modern whirlwind is my hunter. |
