As most of you (should) know, I have rather a passion for the massed armour of the IG.

However, I have finally decided that painting my regiments in the style I started is:
a) not as pleasing to the sys as I once thought they were
b) Takes FAR too long for me to get a decent army ready for E:A's release.

SO, I'm going to put together a new army for E:A, painted fast & effective, with less detail but hopefully still decent gaming quality.

Luckily, my collections are large enough for me to be able to do this, and still have enough models to finish off my original regiments over the coming decades :D

My Problem - I'm totally indecisive as usual & would like some input.

My 4 options I've tried on really speedy (for me, in comparison to the old metho!) painting:

On the left we have a desert scheme. I'm VERY tempted by this as my current regiments are green, grey & White (Agri, city & tundra) so Desert is new. It also fits in well with Armageddon since a lot of the planet is sand covered. 2nd benefit is that I've decided to base my epic Demonhunters on a sand base so they'll have some support if I ever use them!

Next we have the simplest paint scheme of the lot. Codex Grey. Fast, effective, but rather boring. The plus side is that I've already got a LR company and a few support vehicles (tank transporters, trucks & recovery vehicles) painted like this as its how I was doing my reserve forces originally.

Then we have what is basically the same design, but with a camo added.

Then we have what is essentially Steel legion. That wasnt the intention when I paitnted it, I just wanted to try a lighter camo stripe that the previous version and it turned out like this. Downside for me is that it will be very similar to a lot of other armies, and I always like something different ?:p

So, opinions please!
This army will be painted fast, a bit like my Iyanden force was or some of my later 25 & 28mm armies, so no super-detailed ideas, but any other suggestions are warmly welcomed.

Go desert camo - then you can show the rest of us how to do it for the Epic:Armageddon release ;).

Seriously, they all looked cool, the Desert and Steel Legion ones being my fav. Will you be doing an article on your speed painting for Incoming! as I have to do my new IG and could do with some tips :p.

Steel legion all the way! How did you paint that? I want my tanks to look like Carl Woodrows from Dropship, but don't have the expertise to paint that well, and yours looks cool anyway! So how did you do it?

Cheers

The grey ones were done very simply:
Shadow grey
Drybrush Fortress grey
Thin Black wash (chaos black + water 1:4+, not black ink)

Desert scheme is pretty much the same, just using Bobonic brown, bleached bone & thinned brown ink.

For the SL look, Stripes were then added using Desert Yellow & highlighted with rotting flesh.

Hope that helps :o)

And yes tom, I'll do an article, but Fanatic might get first dibs I'm afraid

Gotta be desert- it looks great, especially how it contrasts nicely with the identification stripes...
Brown ink is a must for all painters.... :;):

Hi!

I find the desert colored one offers the best contrast and cleanest detail. I usually like a brighter color for epic stuff since it brings out the detail of the model on the tabletop and looks good from a distance.

I like them all so...why not us ethem all?

I am building my IG force up with differing paint schemes to represent different units.  The codex grey with varying cam colour stripes allows a whole of force look but some individuality.  The desert colour looks great- why not have a Russ Company like that then?

Have a look at any pictures of the Germans or Russian in ww2 and see what a hodge podge of appearances units become aftera  few years of hard warfare and irregular replacements and supply priorities (like paint avaialability to repaint with the seasons).

Just my 2c...they all look great anyway so whichever way you go its sure to be good!

Hi!

True, if you have eough of them, you could aint one company in each of the colors. Thats the approach I use, so as to have variety. If its a limited amount of vehicles then you'll have to commit to one, which makes it harder to choose.

The terms "Primarch" and "limited amount of vehicles" hardly go together mate

As everything in life, it all has to do with frame of reference. Admittedly mine is, to say the least, somewhat distorted....

...and thus when I look at what I have, I still think "limited amount of so-and-so models".

Perhaps some shunting of funds for psychiatirc help is in order?

The desert one and the Steel Legion one are the best looking.

Thanks for the advice TS! I will start experimenting as soon as I get some IG tanks to play with!

My personal favorite is the grey on grey camo (the far right), but I agree the desert is very dramatic.

If you want to do a multipurpose scheme, the desert stripe on the grey (2nd from right) could fit with both a desert force and a more Codex Grey scheme.
