Hi guys,
I'm expanidng my SM army (which is currently all DA) and want to use a different Chapter to add some mre colour to the tabletop. I'm thinking of going for a DA successor chapter or maybe Imperial Fists.
I was wondering what paint scheme people have used for Imp Fists and what seems to work well in 6mm.
Cheers, Tas

Hi!
I use Ultramarines most of the time, but I am building an Imperial Fist chapter as well. I am using yellow for their armor and usally black for weapons. You can highlight certain units and aspects of the model with red or bolt gun metal tones, they seem to look good.

If you can get some old White Dwarfs from around issue #208 to #218 or so, do, as this was when Epic40k was released, and GW chose to paint their 'Eavy Metal Epic marine army as Imperial Fists.... Hope that helps.

Thanks for the tips, however I have found old WD issues difficult to come by so if anyone could paraphrase the article, mainly for the colours, I'd be grateful.
Happy with the DA successors, just thought I'd like somehting completely different. The other other Chapter that tickled my fancy is the Blood Drinkers...may have a small conribution from them as well in due course.

I don't think there was a specific guide, but I would reckon to bestial brown base (for shading) with Golden Yellow painted over the top, leaving the brown in the recesses for shading. Then just pick out the weapons in Chaos Black or Boltgun Metal. I'l have a look in my Codexes and WDs to see if i can find some articles/colour schemes for DA succesor chapters... tho I think they'l mostly be green or black!
The book Insignum Astartes might be a good buy as I think that it has hundreds of SM colour schemes...

I'm happy with the 3 main DA successors- they are either all white (like Deathwing), half green and white or all black (like the orig DA before the Heresy)
Good tips for the Fists though- I'll try that one out and let you know. I guess a white undercoat wuould make them look brighter, but black is easeir for that shading effect.

Yep, in the WD from when Epic40k was released, the marines were painted as Imp. Fists.
I think they look really effective, and have some marines painted in those colours (came with stuff I bought).
The technique this guy seems to have used is simply a white base coat, paint a sunburst yellow, and then wash with an orange ink. It looks effective. He may have drybrushed with a yellow then, not sure.
I would go for yellow to contrast against DA. It should look better.

Though I don't have an Imperial Fists army, painting yellow things can be fraught with difficulty.
One technique I have used with success is to undercoat white, paint a base coat of yellow (I use a humbrol acrylic for this - aircraft yellow). I then paint the detailing in black (drybrush where necessary and then touch-up the yellow). I then give the model a thinned coat of chestnut ink, before giving a final drybrush of yellow.
Examples (not Imperial Fists)

As far as I can tell, this site has all the GW chapters, with sources, possible duplicates and misspellings noted, etc.. It has color schemes and insignia for each, apparently to the limit of the detail GW ever put out. It also includes lists of successor chapters for the First Founding chapters.
http://www.ironhands.com/chapters.htm
If I'm wrong, and some of them are made up, they still have good ideas for colors and insignia.

Thanks - some good info there.
It would be good if we could establish a similar list, but with pics of player's different SM Chapter minis...

That is a pretty good idea. One with nicer graphics and layout would be great. It would be cool to be able to click on a chapter icon and see examples of color schemes, download banners for printing ect... That's just my opinion. I would be willing to do some graffix if anyone would do this kind of thing. (hint)

I guess I should really put my money where my mouth is, should't I....
I'll volunteer to put it all together- you can submit any pics to me by email at
familyog@iprimus.com.au
Not promising that it will be there in a few days, but it will get done.
Unless anybody else REALLY wants to do it, then please go ahead.
