This site features old eavy metal-pages from WD. Not a lot of epic in there but I found this:
WD 117

I am seriously tempted to paint an entire armys worth of marine infantry in legion of the damned colours, with skeleton markings, flames and the works on every single marine...
If I get my speed up to 1 stand per hour it would only take a couple of years!

Yeah, I found that site a while back, there is one nice scan of a page (can't remeber which issue tho) of Imperial and Eldar Knights (the old metal ones) which I found very useful when I came to paint mine. :) ...  There are some of various titans and a hellbore too...

Here is the main section adress:
Eavy Metal pages

and a page from WD 122 (which I have :) ) of some Imperial superheavies, Eldar Knights + battlescene

....a cool Converted Titan

....and here is the page of those Knights that I mentioned (I painted mine as House Arundel BTW).

There are quite a few pages of epic on the site... but it does take one hell of a long time to find them all :L !!
Hope people find these links interesting anyway... :)

Thanks for them, I'll be spending many an hour on there looking for inspiration.

Oh, and to Brother-Captain Parzval, good luck painting those LOTD. You probably get bored after about 20-30 stands and just spray them black.

Cheers

Chris

I agree Chris- I'm bored out of my skull after painting about 40 stands of Ultramarines for my army.. so I'm having a nice break with some terrain making.....
-Much more interesting!! hehe

A site worth saving for future review. ?I have all the W/Ds since issue 108, but this is still worth a look. ?Also when painting large numbers of troops/ vehicles, in my old age, :oo ?I try to keep the paint schemes simple. I'm starting to work on my 3rd release of Epic Orks (from E40K), and I plan to keep most of the vehicles sprayed black & dry brushed metallics. ?It's quick, easy and looks good (hopefully)... ?Since I collect all the Armies (since '90), this is a consideration, for both time and space management ? :;): ...

None of these cool guys are still at GW are they? Like Dale Hurst, Tim Prow, Mike McVey or Tony Cottrell? Does anyone else think they seem a lot more skilled with the brush than the new breed on the WD pages? I really feel that something happened in around 92-93. It becomes harder and harder to distingwish individual painters with personal styles from then on...

I know that quite a few of the GW old guard joined I-Kore, mainly artists and modellers.

I guess they didn't like the direction 40k was taking. Although I-Kore are not making EPIC scale VOID :(...

Tony Cottrell now heads ForgeWorld. Mike McVey wanted to move into sculpting, did the awful Lemartes figure and was told to stay with doing the diplay work. He didnt like it so jumped ship and has been passed around quite a bit from what I've heard, ending up with iKore(?) I think.
The others, I have no idea, but I do certainly agree that there appears to be less individual talent around and more along the lines of "This is how the Heavy Metal team paints, copy it" when new recruits joing the team.
I know for a fact that they're hard pressed for painters and I can understand why having seen the Heavy Metal studio. Its pretty much silence. Everyone sits there with headphones on, listening to thier own music painting for 8 hours straight per day. I couldnt work there, and I paint a hell of a lot more than most!

>>the awful Lemartes figure

Is that the BA one with the stupid looking skull mask?

A shame that Mike McVey has gone anyway, as he used to produce some incredible diaoramas and conversions...
