Hi All,

I have just got a load of IG infantry and am going to paint them as Armageddon steel legion. What I want to know is do I:

A) Assemble the bases and then paint them
B) Clip them off one by one and paint them individually
C) Paint them on the sprue
D) None of the above

Also, does anyone have any tips on how to paint over 2000 guardsmen??? (Lots of coffee and asprin are a start :;): )

Cheers

Chris

I base them first. Though I never thought of painting them on the sprue. I'm on the internet nearly everyday. While I'm chatting and board, I work on a specific step on a detachment. I'm just a procrastinator, especially with painting. I've got to get a 3000 point E:A Guard force done by April 19th. Fun times.

What I do to paint Epic is to paint them in sets of 4 to 6 bases worth- snipped off the sprue, and stuck down :)
...Tho it might be easier to paint stuff on the sprue if you are putting it on the old style squre epic bases..
What do other people think?

I take them off the sprue, and blutac them to a piece of cardboard from a cereal box. This means that you can take them off, space them out, turn them round and even bend the card and get good access to all angles, without touching the minis themselves. There is a picture of some of my Termagants floating around in these boards somewhere that you can see this 'in action'.

Hi!

I guess I'm the only masochist you actually puts them on the bases and THEN paints them.

No wonder I hate painting, I guess I didn't have the sense of using the good techniques mentioned on this thread.

I used to do that. It is really hard to do on a square base. On all my new troops, I am actually going to paint them on the spruce.  :p

Yeah, me too, I'm going to follow the "stick to card" method with any infantry I plan to base on the old square ones, but just paint them based for any on the new kind... :)

I stick the figs on the base

flock them

undercoat

paint the base (green coat, drybrush of sand)

paint the figures

add some woodland scenics to the base

..Interesting that you flock your bases first Jimbo, and now that I imagine it, I can see the advantages this might well have....

Hi!

This is a side question to the topic at hand, but what is an easy method to flock the bases? I personally don't do it (I just painted them goblin green), but I am intrigued on the methods people use.

Layers, man. That is the way I do it. White glue diluted with water. Fock, glue again, flock, glue again and so on. I mix my flocking. I'll use green, then some bunt grass, then maybe dirt/sand or some pebbles.  :p

I reckon that its essential to texture your bases if you want your mini finished off properly.. :;):!!  Seriously though, it really makes them look the part, I reckon..
I paint PVA onto the base, dip it in sand, wait until it is dry, and then paint over it with watered down Bestial Brown. This "seals" the base, ensuring the sand does'nt come off.
I then drybrush with Bleached bone to give it a desert effect, and add static grass, lichen etc to finish off...
Somewhat time consuming, sure, but adds that touch of quality to your army. :)
