I was hoping that you fine folks would be able to help me out with a couple of model questions please!

1) In SM2/TL Era, were there any Squat company or detachment cards that allowed them access to some Imperial vehicles? Things like Rhinos, Mole Mortars, Thudd Guns, etc I know they did, but what about Predators or Vindicators for example?

2) Are the heavy weapon infantry models in the current Imperial Guard Fire Support Platoon separate from the sandbag base shown in the online store, or are they all modelled as a one-piece affair?

Just like SM or IG, Squats had access to some common Imperium vehicles like rhinos, Land Raiders, Thudd Gun, Mole Mortal, Mole, Hellbore, Termite, Leviathan but no predators or vindicators.

Thank you Scream! I don't think TL added any new Imperial units - I had that, but not the Ork & Squat Warlords supplement.

I was hoping there'd be something I could proxy some nice MBTs for (like Predators), but I can see that it is an army that was quite limited; Infantry (possibly in transports), artillery and slow air support, and titan-sized superheavies. I did hope that the army cards were not such a strict reflection of the squat-specific models... Oh well.

Depends on werther you play by the old SM2/TL rules or NetEpic of course. NetEpic adds some more tank units to the Squat army.

Hehe, WMN, that's precisely why I was asking!

I know that in the transition from SM2/TL > E40k > EA, all the races/armies have gained a number of comparable units, even if they are all different and their value to their army as whole varies likewise. For example, Orks gained flyers and Dethkoptas, SMs gained AA units, IG gained air transports, etc.

I also know that the Squats were ditched after SM2/TL, and that later on there was a semi-official E40k list published which was only for the units that were "Squat-specific" and which were released at the time. However, I wondered if they had been developed properly through E40k and EA like the other armies, whether they would have gained some sort of tank(s) equivalents, or changed in some other way.

That's why I was asking; to see if I could use some nice Exodus Wars models on a "counts as" basis, and what they'd be "counting-as" if they did. Its how a lot of SM2/TL stuff wound up in E40k after all! (For example, all the Mekboy Speedstas "count as" a battlewagon with either a Deathray or SLD).

From what I know Squats were completely dropped from the GW background with some lame story about them being eaten by Tyranids. The only official reference post E40k that suggested they might re-emerge is from BFG with the Demiurg. But no references to ground units there.
I think all development on Squat background and army lists since the SM/TL days is essentially fan fiction.
