Greetings o wise peeps, I have an Eldar phantom titan purchased off eBay that I promised (a couple of years ago) that I'd paint for a friend. However it is absolutely covered in superglue: whoever assembled it must have emptied the tube onto it! Can anyone recommend something that'll clean it off? Ideally a household chemical I can raid the kitchen cupboard for. |

You can try the debonder: http://www.supergluecorp.com/zap/zap-z-7-debonder I'm never tried it myself but I'm guessing it's safe on metal. Other options would be boiling the parts in water (and possibly sticking them in the freezer) to make the glue more brittle. It was expand and contract at a different rate than the metal, making it easy to remove. |

Try using Acetone. Or boiling the parts in water. |

Yeah ... Actone/Nail Polish Remover ... Works good on metal ... but not plastic ... ![]() |

Simple Green cleanser is also good at degrading superglue. |

Yea acetone or just putting them in the freezer usually works for me. |

if there is tons of glue obscuring details, acetone would probably be more helpful that freezing, though with some delicate knife work I've found that I can usually crack sheets of super glue off models. |

What about removing superglue from plastic? |

Simple green/hobby knife/freezing is what you can get away with with plastic. |

Acetone for metals is definitely the best way to go. Just immerse the model for a few hours and the CA will turn rubbery. I've heard that lemon juice will work on CA, but that sounds a bit more like a 1950's household cleaning tip. ![]() |

Oh...specifically, plastic epic infantry on plastic retangle stip bases. They are glued in tight, and I'd like them removed safely and cleanly so I can rebase everything. Or at least die trying. Simple Green, Hobby Knife, and Freezing still the way to go? |

I found the only way to deal with that is to cut away the old base and use a new one, a tedious endevour for sure. |

Sprue cutters to chop the minis free, followed by clean up with a razor or hobby knife is what you want. Besides, if this is an eBay lot, you won't know right off if they used poly cement, Elmer's glue, or CA to base. |

Nah, they're mine. I glued them in years ago, and am now thinking about rebasing them. I'm trying to trade for fresh miniatures that aren't based, but I'd like the option to use what I have before I put them up on eBay or for trade on this site. |

You could try braking liquid. Usually works well to remove paint from plastic miniatures, but I don't know if it a) dissolves glue and/or b) even gets to where the glue was applied (seems pretty difficult to me no matter what you use) cheers, |
