As above: left it on a beach after getting a little too drunk!

Let's pretend I have a budget of about 100 Great British Pounds: I'd like to hear people's advice on camera's that they've used (with examples of miniature photos you've managed to take if possible) as I really know very little about this subject.

Second best would be a list of stats that I might want to try fulfilling (huge megapixel range isn't important, good macro and even super macro function is)

Restricted to a budget of £100, I'd lurk on eBay and see if I could get a cheap second hand DSLR like a Nikon D40.

Once you get yourself a DSLR camera, you'll only ever have to update the body after that, as you can keep the lenses forever (Unless you leave them on the beach).

As the designated Cambodian liason, I feel I should have something to say here. But I don't.

TBH it doesn't matter very much what you buy these days as long as you go by a well known manufacturer like Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Sony, Panasonic etc. If you decide to buy second hand you can indeed get some very good cameras for your budget. Personally I like to have as many manual controls as possible as that provides a bit more flexibility.

Currently I use an old Leica D-lux3, an Olympus E-3 DSLR...and even the camera on my Sony Ericsson C901 phone. Back when I bought the Leica the choice was between that and the Canon Powershot G7. I ended up settelig for the Leica as I'd already tried Canon compact cameras and wanted to try something new. The G7 is definitely a good camera and should be within your price range if you pick a good deal on Ebay.
As E&C pointed out though: If you can afford it and like to photograph, getting a DSLR is definitely worth considering.

Aye, the DSLR is such a jump in quality and utility you'll never want another snappycam again.

You'll just want bigger and cooler lenses, and more and more advanced plug-on kits. :D

I agree with Mr. Nice.

Anything with a half-decent macro's brilliant for photographing miniatures.

I love my camera as it's not expensive enough to cart around like a baby, and durable enough to be taken down the pub to photograph drunk people.

Also I'd note that good lighting can do wonders to improve the image quality from even a poor camera.

Schoolboy error. Always leave items of value behind if there's a possibility you'll end up drunk. I learnt this lesson after leaving my passport in a bar in Cambodia.

Heh, I lost my passport in Cambodia as well. It was stolen with a pile of other stuff actually, but still......
