Post subject:  My Eldar Army

So after finishing off the last of my Space Marines a while ago, I decided to tackle the Eldar next.

I've started on the Infantry first as they are the most tedious to do, for me anyway.

I wanted to get the Eldar painted up as quick as possible so I could start playing games other than Marine Vs Marine at home here with my sons. I thought the best way to achieve this and have a decent looking table top army would be to use the Army Painter system. I've never used it before and didn't really know how it would turn out.....but so far, I am happy with the results and in terms of painting, it is really quick........I can't say the same for finishing the bases off though. I wish Army Painter also sold cans where you could dip your stands in and when you pulled them out, they were fully based. I think if the CIA used the basing of large amounts of 6mm army stands as a form of torture in Guantánamo Bay, they would've had Bin Ladens location in five minutes flat.

Anyway, here is a completed test stand using the Army Painter system;

....and here is what I still have to base....I hope I can get them done by the end of the week so I can start on the vehicles;

More to follow as I slowly progress....

I've seen these in the flesh and they're really nice: extremely clean and accurate painting: probably the most effective and best looking 'tabletop standard' epic models I've seen :-)

Basing is also a massive pain in the butt for me! I've tried various shortcuts but it never really works! With epic having so many troops as well I'd say doubly so!

The Army Painter system is actually a product you can buy. A company have capitalised and commercialised the dipping-in-tinted-furniture-polish method. Basically, you spray the models whatever colour you like (if you use the Army Painter sprays, the same single coat of spray serves as the undercoat and the base coat), then pick out different coloured details with a brush. You then dip the model/stand in a tin of their "Quickshade". The pigment from the dip gathers in the creases of the minis giving a surprisingly good shading effect. The dip dries with a strong shine though (and a good solid protective coat) so you need to spray it with a can of matt varnish if you don't like shiny minis. You can check out all their stuff on their website, just google Army Painter System.

I've all but finished the Infantry stands I'm going to do. All I have to do is an Autarch stand (I'm using the models from the Court of the Young King for these) for each of the Aspect Warriors and then they're done. I may one day do some Fire Dragons but to do that I have to fork out nearly $70 just to make 8 stands of Infantry.....that kinda makes me choke.

For some of the Exarchs, I've used different models than the respective Aspect Warriors and for others I've used the same models but just painted them differently. For the Dire Avengers, I used Guardians.....for the same reason I have no Fire Dragons at this stage.

Anyway, here's what I've done of my Eldar Army so far;

Wow, they look really nice and neat and bright.

I'm glad the Dire Avengers looked good, as I advised a friend recently of that exact same idea! Also, I do like the way you've noted the Exarchs - quick and simple, but very effective.

wow, I like very much. Painting guardians (especially as I play Ulthwe so need buckets of the bloody things) is like pulling teeth, so it's great to see such a good looking job. BTW, PMing about Fire Dragons...
